Does anyone know if the original 'road runner' deck lid emblems for a 73 bird were the stick on kind or did they have holes drilled in the trunk lid?

Nice! Saves me from drilling holes! Anyone have a site that I can get them somewhat cheap? Noticed most are running like $80 for the set.

Thanks!

there is some debate, whether or not an emblem that says "road runner" goes under this decal. some guys say the bird in the circle is wrong, but some original cars have it. the plain bird without the circle looks a little boring, but adding road runner emblem under a decal that already says road runner, looks a little "busy".

if you needed the emblems, these would look correct.

I have had 3 original paint 73-4 Roadrunners, all of which had the standing bird decal, with the "road" and the "runner" stick on nameplates beneath. I could take a pic if you like.

These are the ones if they are the stick on kind.

Never saw the bird with the circle on the trunklid{for 73}...Front header yes...But who knows...Never say never.. .. I've also seen the standing bird on the opposite side of the decklid from the "road runner" script on what appears to be the early 73s.. ...But yes the majority of them had the standing bird and the stick on script on the same side{right}..

Can anyone give me dimensions of the words 'road runner '? And also the placement of it in the bottom right corner and the dimensions for the standing bird?

Thanks
Ben

a couple of guys with "survivor" road runners show the circled bird, one with a emblem under it, one with the emblem on the left side of the trunk. do some google image searches, and see the disparities. i have no pics of my old '73 from the rear, so i have no survivor of my own to reference.

there's a discussion on fabo and fbbo regarding this topic.

the fbbo topic shows pics of a standing bird, no circle. it also has measurements, and you can see the outline of where the emblems went under the decal. FBBO

Here's a pic from the '73 Satellite brochure. Little small, but can see standing bird (no circle) and "road runner" under bird decal, and general placement.

Those brochures were printed BEFORE the cars were in production. A lot of stuff was just airbrushed in the "pictures". Don't trust ANY details in those sales brochures.

My 74 was built in early December 73 and has the same standing bird and name plate as the gold car in the brochure. In fact my car is the same color and stripe configuration as the gold brochure car.
