anyway to make a 46RE work without a computer? not worried about overdrive or Lockup as it is for a mud racer

I'd like to know this also .... the computer is required for the electronic governor .

without a signal, it will never go into low gear, and at best will start in second.(that's the reason so many of them burned up, the solenoid/pressure transducer died, and the customer kept driving it). im thinking that a series of on/off switches might get you to where you want to go, but im watching for some other opinions on this. very interesting question...

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

Nope, it needs a computer to control the governor pressure. I believe it will be stuck in 3rd without controller.

I have a rough schematic drawn out for the controller; just haven't had time to continue working on it yet.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Why not just run a 727?

If you want the overdrive tranny you need to find a earlier 89 to 91 46RH. It has nn lockup and no electronic governor and it needs NO computer. I just built one behind a 66 440 with a ultrabell(not my choice) and it works great. Have a switch hooked for the overdrive and tranny works great. It will have 4.10's behind it and will be used to pull enclosed trailer. Set up is in 84 Ramcharger 2wd. Me personnally I like John's idea. Go with a 727 especially in a mud truck.

The Megasquirt people are developing a controller for transmissions called the Mega-shift. Search their forums for that.

I haven't messed with the electronic governor transmissions, but for racing there may be a way to modify the valve body to bypass the governor and apply full pressure to make it a manual valve body transmission?

I think Suncoast transmission might have a manual reverse valve body?

Not interested in the overdrive or lockup. Problem with a 727 is it has to mate to a transfer case with a driver side drop for the truck. I've got a shorty 727, but a divorced Ford NP205 tranfer case has proven to be cost prohibitive. Was hoping to keep the tranny in the truck and be able to run it without the computer, so i could swap to a carb on the motor and MSD box

If you'd prefer to keep the trans you have and you're not interested in OD or lockup why not go full manual? The Transgo TFOD-3 valve body kit will give you total control.

John, so with that kit in the valve body, it will bypass the computer completely and be a manual valve body? if so, that sounds great!

Not all 4x4 were divorced transfer cases. Dodge had some in the 70's, Ford had some in the 70's as well. Difference being that the dodge had the pumpkin on the passenger side of the truck and ford had the pumpkin on the driver side. Now, dodge has gone to the pumpkin on the driver side, so an older ford NP205 will work on the newer trucks

If I go with the transgo kit, will i be able to use any shifter designed for the 727 as long as it is forward shift pattern?

Any aftermarket cable shifter should work.
