haha. I took apart a 71 superbee that had never been apart in the 80's and in behind the rear panels was a baseball bat and an empty mickey of whiskey. I had bought it from the original owner, so I asked him if he put them there...he had no idea, but said there always was a rattle back there.

The screws most likely were used to help stretch the spring to get it on and off. I'm not saying it is factory but that is one way to strech the spring. I used washers to expand my over center spring to get it off. Come to think of it the screw idea might be an easier way to do this.

Sense of humor?

My older Brother worked at a gm dealership and they got a new car in. While doing the PDI they noticed it had a bad smell in the interior. They went at to try to locate what was causing it. After a day of searching they found behind one of the interior panels some chicken bones and a note: "ha ha, you finally found it".

I am the second owner of my 69 GTS and there was always a rattle in the drivers fender. When I took the car apart the first time there was a Pabst can inside the fender and splash shield, and it was complete, not crushed! I also found a cigarette butt in my oil pan, but that could have been put in there during an oil change at some point. The strangest thing was the rear stripe, GT SPORT on one side and DART SWINGER on the other, and there was no evidence of any bodywork.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

Took apart an original A12 road runner and when I removed the gas tank written on the floor pan in chalk was "Help Me" and then a game of tic tac toe with the "o" winning

Not a factory story but there was a bra tucked in the springs of the bench seat (pass side) of a survivor '68 RR I once bought. Car had been sitting in the garage of the original owner's father from '73 until the early '90s. It was at the father's house initially due divorce proceedings!
