It should be consistent and soft, like the others(hopefully). Ohm it and make sure it ohms as the others do. Ignition wires can go bad from the outside in, or inside out. If it is crunchy on the inside, the spark was jumping a gap, and burning everything from the inside out.

Should have made myself more clear on which wire. It's the small wire, maybe 18 gage wire, the one coming out from inside the distributor to the coil.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Yes resistor wire , they used that instead of a ballast resistor.
Easy way to tell , put an ohm meter on it .
