I just bought a dual ballast resistor from pep boys. It measures 6 ohms on one side and 2 ohms on the other. The service book says 5 ohms and 1/2 ohm. So, I'm wondering if I can use this? part number on the one I bought is RUE1. 74 small block, electronic ignition.
Sounds like you might be using a digital meter. Consumer digital meters can be as much as +/- 20% accuracy on low ohms. That and with manufacturers tolerances, you are in the ball park still. Nothing to worry about.

Just not sure why the resistance is not correct.
Yes parts vary alot & actually the nominal resistance on that side which goes in the circuit to the coil primary positive is .5 ohm & one 4 terminal one I checked had 1.6 ohms on that side & it's 35+ years old. I just went from a MP .25 ohm race ballast/FBO .8 pri ohm coil cuz it (the coil not the ballast) failed; to a 1.6 ohm points ballast & a stock black coil (not sure if it was a points or electronic coil as I just pulled it out of my stash) with NO change in performance but it it just a DD
So Robert, Do you mean to tell us that now you are running approx. 1.5 or so depending on what your stock coil is, more resistance in your ignition system without any performance change? What does that do to all of our discussions, debates and so on about which resister, ign. box, coil to use with which ignition system, distributor to use if you just proved that it doesn't really matter or it just isn't that big of adeal which to use with what? Now I am so confused!!! P.S. Is it still as fast?

to end the confusion I should have clarified that my 318 DD 65 dart is a low rpm point A to point B transportation which gets babied as it's my only insured vehicle right now. If performance was my goal (with this car) then yes me going way backward with my coil/ballast selection would definitely hurt me & would definitely be noticeable in the seat of the pants performance
