State of Confusion
Hey guys, I need some help and maybe even a few pictures.

Im having a 518 installed in my 93 Canyon Sport with a 440 conversion.

When the original 440/727 swap was made the tranfer case/transmission crossmember was installed directly to the frame. IIRC all the RC's had a 3/4" or so spacer on this crossmember to drop it down a tad.

Does anyone have any pictures they could post, and maybe a measurement on the spacers used?

One issue I have had is that the PCV valve on the drivers side valve cover has no clearance with the correct small diameter brake booster. I have had several 440 powered trucks, and this has never been an issue before.

My thinking is that those spacers will tilt the engine down just enough to gain the needed space for the PCV valve to fit. As is I would have to pull the booster to change valve cover gaskets, and I know that this can normally be done without having to do that. Ive done it many times.

I am using stock valve covers, fit fine in the previous truck. Also I wonder if the spacers were to help with driveshaft angle since its so short.

I want to make sure this is buttoned up correctly and hopefully for the last time.

The 92-93 Magnum truck frames that I use to have had something different about the motor mount area & used different brackets on the block if I remember correctly
They still bolted to the ears

I can't remember exactly but I know there's something different

Nope. Space and bashing are Totally different things. What we are talking about is for the crossmember NOT the trans mount. These are between the crossmember and framedropping the crossmember 1/2-3/4 of an inch. They are metal

I thought those dropped the skid plate and the xmember bolted right to the frame as all 2x and 4x4 do.

could be a mid 80s alum exfer case deal to help rear driveline angle on the RC, they are a tad shorter than a SWB truck.

could it be for the 4th gear tail housing/adaptor/xfer clearance at the floor pan??

just cut up some steel tube stock like whats used as the alt/PS pump spacers. thats what I used to lower a xmember with on a 79 full time putting a granny tranny with 203 xfer.

It has the correct 4wd engine brackets.

Scratch none of the ones I've seen had a skid plate. I can't recall if the 2wd ones I've had or worked on had them bit the 4wds did

Cutting my own may be possible. But ideally I would like to know the correct length.

I was hoping someone with a ramcharger might be able to take a look under theirs.

I would tend to believe the 4X RCs amd W series trucks would have the same mounting system..

They do. Just the Rc has spacers. Most likely as stated to help driveline angle.

Are you using the original 518 cross-member or the 727 cross-member?

Whats the Differance? It was originally a 518 setup. A friend did most of the swap for him to a 440/727. Im swapping in the 518 with ultra bell for him when I can afford to drive there.

My bad, nevermind my suggestion. Well i don't know what they look like then since my RC had about an inch plus of stacked washers between crossmember and frame to try and correct pinion angle i assume, when i bought it.

I used them on my 446/2 wire 518 2wd 86 RC. They were the original ones it had and I went ahead and reused them for the conversion.

That explains the reason why they're not in the can of bolts for the last 4wd RC that I parted out

I have 4 R/C to reference all 4x4 no spacers under cross members. Years are 84,86 and two 85.

Must be a 2wd only than. Hey Bob can you check your 2wd and measure them if it has them? I think we should still is them for clearance even if its under an inch Mr Johnson.

And the spacers may indeed be a good plan. I did have the taller diesel style blocks installed in the rear, so the spacers would help correct the driveshaft angle.

I know the diesel truck crosmembers had a special spacer attached to the t-case mounting surface that is about an inch to help with driveline alignment.

So if I could find an inside diameter, and length. I can either buy some, or find some.

I have 1"OD and 0.50"ID aluminum readily available.

Never seen those spacers on a 4x4.

The cross-member is different between the 77 and 93. Going from the 727 to the 518 in a 77rc...used the 518 crossmember and reused 4 of the holes in the frame for each side(top&bottom.

The holes will be there since it had a 518 before...just a matter of using the right crossmember.

Are you using the JW ultrabell to adapt to the 440?

Yes he has the ultra bell. I think its been the same crossmember that it had with the 518 because the transfercase bolted to it as well.
