Check the bulkhead. The female connectors open up and make poor contact. May not be noticeable without the current draw of trying to run (i.e. voltage looks good in the "on" position when not running).

Try hot wiring it. Run a wire from the positive post of the battery to the positive side of the coil. Jump the starter relay to crank it. If it runs you know that the dist. pickup coil and the ign. coil are both good. You can work back from there.

Took me 2 years to find the problem at the firewall connector, it was so intermittent. I'd wiggle the wires and everything, no change. If it wasn't working, wiggling wouldn't make it work. Or it was working and the wiggling wouldn't make it stop working. It finaly quit working pretty much altogether and I drove the van on the hot wire for awhile, then I found the problem at the connector, but the insulation/bulkhead connector wasn't melted or discolored at all. Put in the Madd fix and it works great again.

NAPA 725145/725147 Packard 56 type. I'd pull the yellow wire off of the starter relay to disable the starter (no need to run the batt down) & with a helper see if you have fire at the coil positive primary terminal and the ECU power terminal in ign2 (crank) and in ign1 (run)

Remove the female connectors one at a time and close the loops. No need to replace the connectors in most cases...
