Hi all, I have a 440, with Indy EZ heads and their solid valley cover with inspection plate. The valley cover is leaking in the front where the silicone is. Do I have to pull a head to reseal this or is their a way to reseal it with the heads on the engine. I searched but did not find any defenate answers. What silicone do you reccomend? I was going to use the Mopar ATF silicone unless there was a more suitible kind. Thanks.

no problem. clean up the area where it's leaking real good. spray some carb cleaner or other suitable de-greaser around the area to be sealed. lay out some masking tape on the perimeter edges where you want the sealer to stop & rtv away. lick your finger so the rtv dont stick & make it look tidy. peal off the tape & you wouldn't know you'd repaired it. i do this to seal my heads, i'm sure you can do similar to repair your leak.

Some of the Mega blocks (like the one I own!) need to have a hump near the distributor ground off if you have to slide the valley plate out. I should buy a plate with the access built in!

On my old 500" low deck I had a local machine shop put a slanted cut down the center of my Indy plate so it could easily be installed or removed with the 440-1 heads installed. Worked great!
I'm also doing a pump gas 500" low deck for the new Duster with max wedge port Eddy heads so I don't know what I'm gonna use for a valley cover??

So what seals the machine surface cut rtv.  ?

I'm dealing with the same thing on my 500" blower motor. But since the heads are spaced up about .010" with Cometic gaskets, I've been thinking of doing a straight cut on the coverplate, and fill the gap with some aluminium edging in the form of a T-strip or something.
Andy's plate looks like a very nice piece but I can't see myself spending $250 on it at Mancini's.

The clear valley has been useful during dyno testing. We tracked down a couple of small oiling issues by watching thru the plate.

I don't agree. I've pulled the valley plate off 2 different Indy engines withe the heads on. Remove the intake, remove the 6 tray bolts, cut the RTV with a knife, slide the plate back and drop it into the valley. Then twist lift, remove, clean, and reinstall. Whats the big deal? I also thread the center 2 holes 3/8x24. Then screw a bolt into the plate to help split the China wall seal. Only a turn or so against the block does the job.

.But now i have one with the removable center section so if i need to check the lifters i can remove the center plate.Hope this helps
