Been looking for one or more near Omaha. I even had a post here and was told about two or three but haven't had a chance to check them out yet. Getting too cold unless I hear of something I just can't live without So many of the good ones have been shut down by the busy body "do-gooders", that the one left are well kept secrets. Gotta know a friend of a friend of a friend sorta thing.

Nope, shut down by high scrap prices. Many old timers are cashing out. (or cashing in. you get the point)

Junk yarding is nearing its end....10 years, there will be no old cars in yards.

I used to care but....... things have changed

Plus even if there were junkyards in Michigan everything would be rusted to the point of uselessness.
Take a road trip out west.

The best in the Midwest I know about is called
Mopar City in Oregon, IL.

Local race icon Larry owns it. Great guy to work
with.

Think you can find him on the web.

I pulled some parts for Mech440 in Central VA yesterday. The owner was lamenting about scrap being down to $1 per 100lbs from $16/100 lbs earlier this year. I told him of a friend in FL that "cashed in" by crushing about 300 cars earlier this year. He said the guy in FL timed it right!

He was then only getting about 2-3 calls a week during the spring as the Immigrants and Vultrues were buying or hauling all the local abandoned or derelict cars off to the crusher before the owners would call the junkyard. He says that these days with scrap prices so far down, he's back to getting 2-3 call a day!
