IMO ....an aftermarket drum is a MUST HAVE PART .... then the trans is safe. I saw one come apart many years ago .... wrecked the floor and the dash on the car ... hurt the drivers right foot BADLY .... not to mention the trans is toast .... but that it NOT ALL ... it damaged the torque-converter ......

Yikes,... I think You might want to include a new transmission case too? Amazing for the amount of violence/damage. That is really scary to even think about. Just Your toe?,.. Wow.

The 727 is a GREAT transmission but they do have their do's and don't s.
We just had my old 727 rebuilt for Matt's Duster and he tested it on test & tune night, put 24 runs on it at Norwalk's footbrake race and 2nd time trial last week broke a 8 3/4 ring gear on the starting line. The trans is out for a new sprag even through we run a billet drum as its not worth the chance. New rear gears and transmission going in tonight and tomorrow so he can race again Saturday. Ain't racing fun.

Pretty sure John (CRT) has a special going on right now in the for sale ads for the billet drums.

Turbo 400's blow up to. The difference Chevy people listen to each other and will not dare run with without the safety provisions on their 400's.

Why in the world would anyone run a stock drum in a 727 is beyond me. Then if you did and it blew up I personally would count my blessings and not say a peep. Kind of like if I got wild and crazy drunk one night and decided to drive the race car down the road naked and it caught fire and burnt up my privates. Would not tell anyone.

If you bought the stuff and was told it had a billet drum when it in fact did not. Sorry for your loss.

I've never broke a trans in MANY years of racing..
I still run the stock drum BUT I'm getting ready to
sell the car... I am putting a steel drum in it so
the next person wont screw up and blow it... I would
feel bad if another person got hurt... I shift out
of low in a matter of feet so its never been much of
a issue with me and if I were to spin I shift...
so John if your still reading I'll be talking with ya

The drum doesnt break on its own unless its total worn
out... the sprag goes out then the drum spins 2.2 times
the engine rpm.. after 6200 rpm the centrifugal force
takes it out
