NicksGarage OP master Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 4,127 Ramona, CA	A friend is working on a 1960 413 engine and it has springs on the intake valve stems inside the ports. I've never seen anything like it. Anyone know anything about these? See the picture. 7772247-413valvespring.JPG (74 downloads)

Probally a trick of the week some time ago or a massive screw up on somebodys part originally That or one of the local other brand shops where trying to slow that big old motor down Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

The engines went through special handling at Chrysler. As for having those parts in there, there is not only a risk of broken parts falling into the cylinders but it can't help with airflow. I'll see if I can get some pictures of it disassembled.

NicksGarage OP master Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 4,127 Ramona, CA	Here is the latest update on the mystery. It appears that these are retrofit valve seals that were used on Buick Nail Head engines. Apparently Buick didn't uses valve seals on these engines until 1966 which was the last year. Some retrofit seals go on the top of the intake valve guides as normal and others are like this. They will not be going back in when the engine is built.
