Finally got some time to work on mu Cummins. I shot some air into the fuel line from back at the tank. I appears that the plug in for the fuel heater is leaking. I can't see how to remove the part.

Is it the entire base that has to come off? I tried taking a pic with my phone for a better look. No go.

Thanks in advance

Mine has pooched the o-ring above the heater twice....makes it hard to start. I think the heater is held on with a "Nut"...same nut the fuel filter threads onto. The heater upper o-ring is more like a square sided oring...available at the dealer, but be forewarned....they can only order them in a pack of 10. If the dealer want's to be a dink about it, that's one expensive part if you have to buy the pack!!! I think they're about 4 bucks a piece....
If it's the fuel heater itself....open your wallet..

I may be able to remove the fuel heater and take the filter up. I found a video on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhrS9-0tcqk If that is supposed to work for gelling? I'll just add Howe's in really cold weather.

The video said there was a 13/16th nut up there. That was a '94. I have no nut that I can see. There is an adapter with a slot running across it. I am trying to either pry the plastic heater off, or see it that adapter is holding in in there.

Aggrivating durn thing! Back to the 90+ heat and humidity!

Thanks Herkamer!

Of to the hardware store with an old filter. I have to get 2 NPT nuts to work against each other to remove the adapter.

I actually got a set of bootleg Mitchell CD's with the truck from the PO. My disc drive is dead.

My brain told me "get some Allen driver hex sockets" while I was at Lowes...........back to the truck.

94's might be held on with a hex head. 93's no way. Looks like I will need to get a grade 8 washer and grind it flat to remove the adapter pipe.

I ordered a shorter heater eliminator pipe from Cummins. It may be in tomorrow or Friday.

I have time to reinstall the tank. I'll have to get some pics up when I get the fitting out.

I think that adaptor uses an allen key or a square bit. I don't recall having to use anything special...

Not on a 93. I am going to yank it with vice grips or a pipe wrench. I just bought a shorter adapter from Cummins for the purpose of eliminating the heater. $30 and I got it over night. You can get the same part elsewhere for $15.95+shipping.

Looking forward to hearing the Cummins again!

Yipeeeee! There is some rattlin' going on out in the driveway!

The new piece can be installed with an 8mm or a sloppy 5/16th hex wrench.

Can you tell me what the old adaptor looks like now that you have it off??? I still don't remember us using anything super special to get it off....
Mine is a '92.
