I have 360 that was built about 6 yrs ago, and has been on stand ever since. Have rolled motor over every month or so and kept cylinders lubed. Motor is now in the car, and am wondering if I should have pulled it back apart since it has set for so long. Any opinions?? Just has me a little worried, don't want to wipe a cam lobe or gall a bearing.

Prime the oil pump and make sure it fires ASAP. You will probably be okay unless it's some crazy big cam or exotic build.

set the dampener on 15 BTDC #1 compression then turn the dist till the magnet is dead even with the tooth that places the rotor under the #1 cap terminal. Make a mark on the dampener 2&1/4" to the right clockwise from the slit which is 35.5 degrees & when it fires have a helper set the timing to that at ~2500 RPM (vac adv capped). Read "breakin secrets" at www.mototuneusa.com. I would put some oil in the cyls & preoil it clockwise with a 5/16 hex priming rod. Not sure how much turning has been done to whether I'd pull the intake & regoop the cam. Myself I would but I'm anal on things & I have alot of time/money tied up in a rebuild & there's been a horde of cam related failures reported lately. Shop fan in front of rad. Helper to spot leaks while adding fluid to the trans. another helper to time the dist. You in the drivers seat to shout orders/monitor gauges. ANY issue dont think about it just shut it down immediately/fix it/restart it & continue on the 25 minute breakin time. Goose the throttle many times. remove the inner springs if used. EDIT. thermostat OUT. front of car jacked up (air pockets). good zinc breakin oil (Bradd Penn)

The cam is what worries me most. Heard to many horror stories lately to, and kind of has me nervous. Appreciate the input. Had thought of some of that but not all. Still a few days away from being ready.

If I was you I would probably pull the intake and relube the cam and lifters before firing it up. If the cam was previously lubed with something like the Comp Cams lube I doubt there is any left on the lobes at this point.

I put the cam in my 383 a few months ago and had lubed it up with the Comp Cams lube. All of the lube is now pooled up in the bottom of the clear plastic bag that is covering my engine on the stand. The cam lobes are pretty much bone dry now so I will definately be lubing it again prior to startup.

I was pretty surprised that stuff was so runny. I've seen pics of guys using moly lube that looked to have the consistency of bearing grease, but the Comp Cams lube has a consistency more like gear lube so it definately runs off after a relatively short period of time.

Use a light layer of wheel bearing grease,on the cam lobes and some straight weight oil. In all the cams I have changed I have never lost a lobe
Any more every fire up is a Cecil B DeMiles production
Key seems to be fire it up and make sure it stay's running at least 2500-2800
