My street 440 in the Super Bee is using a flex fan with a half-shroud and 195° stat and it tends to overheat rapidly, especially in traffic, in temps above 90...which is pretty much all summer long here.
Coolant is fine, rad is clean, no leaks.
I'm wanting to use an electric fan set-up but was hoping for some input here. What do you use?, and how hot does it get: motor and/or ambient air? It's

I would look for a good pusher fan if you want to keep the flex fan but they don't get the job done...I would get that HHR electric fan ..very strong ,quiet and cheap,,moves a lot of air....Think I paid around 59 $ for mine...as it's an oem fan it is dependable and is quiet and has it's own shroud.I was stuck in traffic one hot summer day for over an hour,,, never ran past t-stat temp.... the 195 t- stat is too high,,go 180. The HHR worked well for me while it was still 440 cid...started to run hot once I went 493 cid stroker motor..then I went to a 28 inch rad and dual fans from a full size Chrysler ...

the stock Mopar cooling system is more than enough to cool that 440. a flex fan with a 1/2 shroud will never work especially with a 195 stat. i know stock isn't the prettiest but properly installed it works all day long.

I tried a chrome half shroud, didn't work. I ended up using a Ford aerostar shroud for the summit aluminum radiator.

It runs fine like that, but for very hot days or traffic, I installed two 8.5" spal pusher fans, which are basically hidden by the front bumper. But they do cool it down in ~100 degree weather in traffic.

So maybe a real shroud should be tried before the expense of a fan or two.

Sounds like a good plan. BTW, when I had that chrome half shroud, I tried to make it into a "full" shroud by completing the circle with very thin sheetmetal. That didn't work either, I think because of lousy sealing between the shroud and radiator, and possibly the fan being too small within the shroud, so it didn't have to pull air through the radiator.

So, just in case you were tempted to try a shortcut, been there done that

The only flex fan that I have ever had good luck with was the factory fan on my old 72 Mach 1. The aftermarket 1s are garbage and also dangerous. Ive seen good results with that 5 blade MP fan..

I run a stainless flex fan from Summit.My 440 is built radical and never gets over 185 even in the 90s.It runs a untouched 65 C body 22 inch rad with the small factory shroud.I even run underdrive pulleys.My kids 62 300 413 also runs a factory rad no shroud as from the factory.He has UD pulleys and flex fan also.It never gets over 190.My fan is probally over 20 years old and no problems even spinning it to 7200 at the track.My son races the 62 also.Only fan I ever had break was a factory steel one and that was 40 years ago.We both run 180 stats.No need for anything higher.Rocky

This stock setup and flex fan works ok for me. But in 95 plus weather when sitting at redlites for a bit it will creep up to 200 so I added and electric fan pusher which helps keep it between 180 and 190 on the hottest days. Ron
