Hey, I am finally installing my original engine wire harness and am follwing the OEM schematics. I have a 6 ga and a 10 ga wire on the batt terminal of the alternator. The OEM schematic does not show this heavy 6 ga as an option for the "B" carline,(barracuda). This car came with a/c, does that mean it could have a 65 watt alt? Why doesn't the schematic show it?

What year? The 69 & earlier would have a round back alt & they're rated in amps & the OE harness would have a large black wire with a ring terminal on it or likely the plastic bakelite safety shield surrounding the ring terminal & as you know that would go on the "batt" male stud on the alt & the green wire with the female connector would plug on the male alt field terminal. later alts would have 2 field terminals & a blue field wire with a female connector same as the green wire & they can go on either of the field terminals & if the wires are semi hardened just route them the way they would naturally lay the way they were originally on there.

What year? The 72, 73, and 74s did not have that option. The 65 amp alternator option in the Satellites (same under hood wiring except tachometer) bypassed the bulkhead connector and wired straight through to the ammeter through grommets in the firewall. If yours does not have that, it is likely not a 65 amp alternator. My FSM does not show that modification in stock Barracudas.

Ok,this is kind of strange, I guess someone may have added this cable somewhere along the way. (Problem is, it looks like a stock cable, and goes right to the battery). Here are two pictures of what I am talking about. Actually the R-W carlines have this option and the Haynes repair book shows it as an option for e-bodies, however I have found torque mistakes in that book already.
Before you guys comment on the way the positive cable is separated at the relay, I know, I figured this out two nights ago. The positive cable should go directly to the starter, and then come back to the relay. After thinking about it though, it doesn't make a difference, just that the battery goes through the relay. So I need to get this wiring correct. I was going to purchase the correct positive cable and then eliminate the 6 ga that goes to the battery. It is a 74 barracuda.

It is quite possible that someone redid the cable. I redid my dash wiring and while tedious, it is not a hard job to do. You could always get a Yearone harness. 74 had the seatbelt relay but other than that, the same as 72 and 73.
