this is what I tried with my 77 lopo 440.
1) stock cast iron intake with a holley spredbore/eddy600/750q-jet = no big deal would not spin tires off the line. done by 4800rpm. 10 mpg flat.
2) weiand action plus eddy600 - not much over stock performance. done at 4800 and choking. 10 mpg flat.
2)eddy RPM eddy 600-
good lowend, will smoke the tires from a slight roll, revs well into 6200rpm range with stock cam nosed over 5200rpm, 12 mpg flat.
down side, slight bog on tip in of 2ndarys,600 seemed lean maybe/not enuff accel pump shot=cant get any bigger.
upside, swaped on a open spacer with a new q-jet, some tuning got the bog almost gone now, smokes them out the hole, q-jet tips with lots of torque.great throttle responce, cruzing 50 mph-2200rpm-3.23 gear-29x15x15 M/Ts picked up to 15 mpg flat. ( done 3 200 mile round trips to confirm mpg) anything over 2500 rpm sucks the gas but scratches like a 440 should.
3.91 drop it back to a flat 10 mpg no matter what cruz rpm/45 mph or less.
but scratch it does
I have a holley street dominator to try also,I will give it a shot just because it is a spredbore intake, (I can loose the adaptor)
IMHO..go right to a rpm intake on that stock lopo 440, you wont be disappointed in it. and it has room to grow.
after seeing a couple whiplash 440s and a couple 360s(flat tappet) I think it is one of the best cams for a stock street duty SB or BB
I will let you know how the 318 roller whiplash works with a LD4B intake/q-jet carb real soon.
