Guys I'm putting a 1965 413 into a 74 W300 pickup. This block has the hole in the block for the dipstick, not the pan like the trucks. I've installed a truck oil pan and would've used the 'car' dipstick, but it won't fit with the rear sump truck pan. I've got a truck dipstick, no problem, but my question is what to do with the hole in the block? I imagine with crank pressure a plug could blow out under high rpm? The opening in the block is relatively close to 1/8"NPT size. Would it be sacrilegious to drill and tap the hole or could it weaken the block? Suggestions?

Trucks have the same hole its just plugged. You can use silicone, a small frost plug or hunk of brass, jb weld etc etc. Truck pan has the dipstick in the side of the pan

I tapped my block and put in an allen head pipe plug, no problem. Used the Milodon deep pan and their flexible dipstick.

Thanks I did the same. The hole in the block is already 'drilled' out to 1/8"npt tap size, I didn't have to drill it, just run the tap in. Pretty easy.

Factory truck and marine engines just had an aluminum plug driven into the hole with some sealant...

How did you get the motor mount brackets bolted to the block?

The 413 in my New Yorker had no "ears" on one side of the block (drivers I think) to mount a conventional bracket to. Used a different style of bracket.
