Any suggestions for a leaky shift cable? I replaced the O ring but still leaks.

The cable housing is full of fluid up to the fluid level in the trans; there is a rubber sheath around the lower part of the cable housing to prevent fluid leaks, if that sheath is damaged it will leak fluid.

Heat shrink tubing can be used to repair a damaged sheath; some heat shrink contains a glue, it works best. Be sure the heat shrink extends up onto the metal end of the cable housing.

Also, be sure the leak isn't coming from above the cable at the TP lever shaft.

Thanks, I will check that out. I worked with a John Kunkel at Del Monte in the late 60's, any relation?

If it was the Sacramento Del Monte it could have been the jerk with a different middle initial that kept fouling up my credit...no relation.

My headers burned a hole in my cable and was able to fix it by cleaning with brake clean and using that brush-on electrical tape rubber stuff then covering with shrink sleeving, could have used the Scotch 23 self-vulcanizing tape covered with Scotch 33 too I suppose, has lasted 10 years.
