I have looked and searched, are the Indy non roller bearing rockers any better quality than the other cheaper brand rockers ? Are they made in the USA ? I don't want to chance losing my engine over a broken rocker. Anyone with real-world experience with them, good or bad ? Thanks

If this has been covered elsewhere, point me there and I'll read it.

I had an interesting conversation a short time ago with a tech rep from Dove Manufacturing. He refused to say outright that Dove made the rockers sold by Indy, but he did say that he was very familiar with Indy's rockers and that they were definitely made fron 7100 series aluminum alloy. Dove's rockers are made in the USA. Zinc is the primary alloying element in 7000 series aluminum and 7000 series is the strongest and most notch resitant of all aluminum alloys. That said, Ken Lazzeri of Indy heads told me several years ago in a moment of genuine candor that their rockers like all aluminum rockers would eventually break. Usually in the form of a clean break across the bottom. He likened it to the cut of a bandsaw. He went on to say that how long they would last had a lot to do with spring pressures. With modest pressures they could last indefinitely. Based on personal experience I have 55,000 miles on my Indybrocks [ sorry Josh, Indy aluminum TA heads ] and they are still going strong. My pressures are nominal and I shift at 6,200 rpm. Of course after Ken told me that I bought two [ left & right ] spares just in case one breaks on the road. Kind of like carring an umbrella on a cloudy day.

Well, I'm running a .650 lift roller cam and will shift around 7200, traps possibly 7400. The springs are 250 closed, not sure about when open.

My pressures are quite a bit less, 125lbs. on the seat and 360 lbs. open. Hyd. flat tappet .546 lift, true street car. Drive it from coast to coast on 89 octane. My guess is that the rockers will live for awhile , but I would check them regularly. While I am not really sold on the idea of roller bearing rockers, Harlan Sharps do seem to be the best short of T&D or Jessel. I think Sharps are made of 2024 alloy which is also very good. Like 7000 series it is also used by the aircraft industry.

same here. the problems i've experianced were 1x broke the wheel off the tip of the rocker, Josh replaced it for me, (cheers Josh), several have had adjuster problems but i'm onto that issue & know when to replace when the problem starts.
i'll upgrade to either T&D's or HS's after this season. my springs are 600lbs open & i want to go more with a bigger cam but i'm not risking using Indys when i do.

Sorry for the hi-jack.

Is there a cup style adjuster that will work with this rocker? Got a set off C/L last year for what I thought was reasonable ($200) but they have ball adjusters and my push rods are ball/ball. I have a set of Comp cup styles that I installed on some rockers that shall remain nameless.

Big roller equals better rockers. The spring pressure and intended usage is what kills these aluminum rockers. Much like an aluminum rod they have a fatigue life. Indy offers both T/D and Jesel at the time of purchase of their kits but few seem to take them up on it until later. The Standard Indy rockers work fine with all hyd and most solid cams. For what it is worth I say roller equals better rocker of your choice.Todd

Don't know for sure, but the vast majority of adjusters are 3/8 in. fine thread so it's certainly possible that you may get a cup adjuster to fit. I would check very carefully to see if the oil hole in the rocker is compatible with a cup adjuster.

I've used my Indy 1.6 rockers on a big solid then a fair sized roller they held up fine. Now they are spares got a used set of harland sharp broke two harland exhaust they said they had not made that model since 1998 using a smaller bearing now so they replaced all my exhaust rockers for $10 each exchange sweet deal!

Wow, that was a sweet deal ! Just to be clear, my Indy's are the non-roller bearing style, ride directly on the shafts. I wouldn't think that would be the problem though, as my Isky 1.6's were unbushed and they were like brand new when I took them off. I'd use them but with the 1.6 ratio the piston to valve clearance gets below minimum.

We have used the Indy(Dove) rockers for years. If your application is under 700 +- lift and dosen't exceed 600# spring pressure open you will be fine.Anything big lift and pressure use the best you can afford.
