can someone give me a measurment from bell housing surface to center of the trans mount bolt pad?

what size is the front bearing retainer hole? a833 has smaller hole a833OD has the larger hole correct?

thanks

Scratchy,,, the measurement is the same as any "Normal" 904/727.. The diameter of the hole is 5.125, same as the NP435.. The 88/93 hyd bells for the OD833 and the 425s have the dual bolt patterns..

ok,just wondering if you can use the hydro bell to stick a 833OD in instead of a 5 speed.

if it does work, then I am going to nab the 833OD trans with shifter laying in the back of a truck hooked to a /6 at the u-pull.

workbench high,4 bolts to remove it,80 bux out the door.

I thinks me will grabs it for the spare v-8 hydro bell I have on the way.

I was also interested in that measurement to compair the 5 speed to to see if the xmember is in the sma place or would I have to drill new holes in the 85 frame for the newer style xmember/trans combos.

thanks shorty

Mike when I did my V8 swap, the right engine mount lined up. The driver's side needed a plate fabbed up. The trans mount was off a bit.I mounted the crossmember in the stock location, but had to drill two holes on the bottom of the passenger side frame rail. The 5 speed member mounted different on the bottom, with just one bolt. There are spacers/ renforment plates that go under the trans mount bolts. I laid the plates in front of the trans mount, and that was excatly how far off the bolt holes were. Had a guy at work weld a plate under the trans mount and it worked perfectly.

thats with the 88 frame and 833OD correct?

both of my frames are 85, so I can mount the 318 on its mounts and fit the xmber/trans mount, if they are no holes or off from stock holes, I will drill them as needed to fit the newer xmember in there. same with it useing the 5 speed.

I think I have kicked the turdflight blues.

looking at some 88-93 manual trans trucks and a couple 88-93 auto trucks the floor hump looks about the same.

I am going to pull a measurement from the back cab wall to center of shifter hole. then a smal hole saw to start the cutting.

I will build a box if ned to cover it.

Might as well grab the bellhousing while you are at it, Slant Six guys are looking to ditch their "turdflites" too. You can sell it in the classifieds.

i would use the 833OD or the 5 speed if I could get a bell with hydro clutch to fit the BB.

dont they make a adaptor/spacer for this??

Yes there is a SB to BB adapter plate but it is redicually expensive.

What do you have against the factory mech linkage bell? You could make an adapter plate to go between the bell and the trans like 85 ram 4speed did..

IIRC there was a post here about making a little bracket to mount a slave cyl to a normal bell by utilizing a the lower starter stud and drilling a hole in the bell.

I'd say around $600 bucks and you got to cut the block to use it from what I've read. Lakewood has a bell that would take the NV4500 and 833OD to BB mopar, or you can find the stock bell that I found....well for the 833OD & 143 tooth flywheel for a truck.

But this doesn't really help with the hydraulic clutch though as far as being set up like that. Again it might not take to much to convert them maybe??????????

The trans will fit in the non-humped floor, but you still have to cut some out and make some type of hump for it unless you get one out of another truck. I am opting to make my own as I feel the factory floor hump is just obnoxiously huge and encroaches to much on the area for the gas pedal. I had to cut a hole for the shifter and some foward for part of the linkage to get it to fit.

i remeber doing that to a 74 truck auto hump, had kinda a round hole for shifter and a slice down the edg of hump from hole for the linkage...I stuff rags around it back then.. it was a mud truck, not much comfort features

on the 85 truck auto floor hump,I am thinking the same thing. just make my own box for it.

I planning a slice across the hump forward of shifter, with a slice across the hump behind the shifter, just in front of bench seat set/latched at full forward.

then slice it right down the center. now each side of the hump flat to make the sides of the box, this will leave the floorpan/hump higher than needed, so cut a sheet panel to make a top cover with hole for shifter and adjust the height and weld in place.

trim the sides down to the top so it has nice and square corners. then 2 small pieces to close the ends of the box blending into the floorpan/hump.

I plan to make the 3 cuts thru the carpet so it can go back in after triming it so only the shifter box shows.

gonna do a spray in bed liner for lower inside of cab/hump/box and install the carpet back on top of that.

the 88-93 truck floor pan is a little different and should not need much of anything other than a hole for a shifter.

from what i can tell in the JY, the 88-93 auto trans cabs with holes for hydro clutch/pedels, have the flater wider floor hump.

the 88-93 manual trans cabs seem to have the same floorpan/hump as the auto cabs.

either way, I now know how to go about the body work part of building a shifter box. no spot welds to drill YEA!!!

I have been looking at the crazy newer style trans mount the used on the 88-93 frames. 13 bolts for a xmember,6 studs/nuts for mount,1 cross bolt/nut,2 bolts/metal bracke to tail housing...

I think i might as well build me a nice xmember with a better mout than the crap looking piece they have for them stock.

Digging this back up to add to it. I made my own floor hump for the stock auto floor pan with my 833 O/D. While overall I am happy with it, I wish I thought ahead a little bit as far as the front edge is concerned. It is still encroaching on the gas pedal like the stock 4X4 floor, which I don't like. I may be able to fix that, but I do like the fact I have ALOT of acess when its removed.

I made it by starting with 3/4 x 1/8" steel to make a flange. Then had a piece of 20 gauge steel bent to a 90 degree bend and then just filled in the ends and rt side. BTW, that is a Van shifter handle in there, It does not hit the dash as some mentioned it would (did they actually try it?) and it fits perfectly with the later BR (94-01)Ram seat I installed.

Part way through assembly. There is a 1/4" bolt that will go where the cleco pins are. I used 1/4" u-nuts, or clip nuts, mounted on the floor pan to capture them.

Here is the stock boot ring, with a boot that came out of some newer jeep product. The Jeep boot had an intergrated plastic boot ring which I intended to use, but it was just way to big to fit on the hump. So I cut it and one ring/rib of the boot itself off to fit the stock ring. I like this boot as it is offset at the shifter handle hole vs. being centered like the stock one--I think it fits better that way.
