I'm buying and driving back 350 miles a 1980 Ramcharger with the manual locking hubs. Is it OK to drive the whole way at 65 with the hubs unlocked/free wheeling or should I lock them and have the D44 axle spinning. Of course the TC will be in 2 hi. I've read somewhere that certain 4X4 front axles need to have the hubs engaged every 200 miles or so for lube to the hubs. I think the hubs are factory Chrysler. They don't say Warn on them. Thanks.

Mark

You can do 75plus with them unlocked and the Transfercase in 2wd. Locking them is for 4wd only and the transfercase must be in 4hi or low. Basically its a 2wd until the hubs are locked and the transfercase is put in 4wd. You'll be fine

Thanks, I'll post pics when I get it back. It's the Orange one that was for sale at Farmington. I was wanting a 72-80 style Dodge truck and It will be my first Ramcharger and with the cool color, pop top, stick and the fact it was from Montana with a lot of new parts, I had to buy it!
