e-body,360 motor, mild cam, summit headers. I'm thinking I want 2.5 inch exhaust. Looking on Summit site, most everything is 3.0 inch. I also wanted to use the Dynomax super turbo mufflers for not so loud a system. Any suggestions? Budget is under 400.

It's the right size for a 360.
Dynomax 17748 or 17749 are the best flowing quietest mufflers of which I am aware in the 2.5" size.
You need an H-pipe, can be fabricated without too much stress.
As for pipes, I don't know. For your budget they should be out there.

the pypes system looks like a pretty good value

stainless pipe, Xpipe and stainless mufflers for $400?

granted you're on your own from the front of the system to the manifolds...

I second the motion on the 17748/49 large body turbos, but they are big, and may not fit.

I only needed a 2.5 system for my challenger behind a mild 413, but went 3" so when I build a better engine I won't have to upgrade the exhaust. Something to think about.

2&1/2" would be adequate for your current eng but I would suggest mandrel bends for less restriction and an X pipe & extra glasspacks or resonator muffs along side the rear springs for more sound control & more sound control lets you run a less restrictive for more power but (louder) muffs while still staying within your comfort zone. A 3" system might gain a slight bit as I believe any neck down past the collector flange restricts flow & therefore power & that correct velocity (pressure wave tuning) is strickly a function of the primary tubes & a 3" system would certainly be the way to if a larger eng might come later but it'd be WAY louder. Ideal would be a 3" mandrel system (at least to/including the cutout) then with restricted muffs then a electrically or vacuum operated ex cutouts which'd be reasonably quiet in normal operation then loud & full power on demand when needed but would be way beyond your (stated) budget

The difficulty of routing a 2 1/2" system is magnified trying to go 3". Forget it unless you're putting a 6-71 blower on the 360.

Mandrel bends are great, any decent kit should have them.

X-pipes are neat but cost more and are sometimes more difficult to package. A simple H-pipe can be added wherever there's room. In a pinch it can even be of smaller diameter than the main pipes.

Keep in mind that an exhaust system that is difficult to route or package may result in continuing noises inside the car as the pipes run into the bodywork. I've been in a car like that and though it was a neat car it was horrible to drive.

One more point: As the exhaust gets farther away from the heat source it cools down, having less volume. 2 1/4" tailpipes may be even easier to route over the rear axle. Study first, then buy.

I like to run headers with a 2 1/4" head pipe back into 2.5 in/out muffs with 2 1/2" tail pipes.

gives a deeper tone to my glass packs and not so much of the poping they are known for.

Ok, so as Patrick stated on another post. Maybe get an "H" pipe, to Dynomax turbo mufflers, then over the rear and down, and if it results in being too loud, then splice in some "glass packs" between the rear and the valance? also, use a system with mandrel bends.
Sound good?
