I have an 08 1500 Hemi Sport 4wd. It has the transfer case with the Automatic 4wd option. Its not been working real well. I turned it on in the pouring rain the other day and it didn't work. The light on the dash lights up AUTO 4WD but the auto feature doesn't always work. Anytime the automatic feature doesn't work the regular 4WD and 4WD Low range don't work either. Shutting the truck off, waiting, and firing it back up will typicly fix the problem. However, if I avoid the auto setting it will go right into 4Hi and switch out no problem. Its after auto 4wd is selected that you have to shut the truck down.

I knew I shouldn't have bought a truck with a 4WD KNOB! I like the lever in my jeep, anytime, any speed, anywhere......4wd.

A friend had a 2006 4x4 with the 4wd knob. He said he had to engage it occasionally to make sure it would work when he needed it. It make a clickity/ratchet type noise when it went INTO 4wd. When shut off, it made a different noise.
