I have a 70 E-body and plan to mount the mufflers behind the rear axle (where the factory round mufflers were). However, I am using the Ultraflow oval mufflers (3in). What is the guideline for how much clearance there needs to be between the gas tank and the muffler body? I know the mufflers will radiate some heat, but since they are all the way to the rear of the car, I figure the muffs will be cooler than anywhere else in the system.

Thanks for your answers!

Dave

I agree & although I cant give you an exact measurement to shoot for as a minimum I have seen them in close proximity & no issues & the airflow works wonders.
