I know the top should be done after paint. But should we put paint on the roof or is epoxy primer enough?? I think we should blow some paint on it . Paint shop says we are wasting material???? Thanks Larry J

I guess someone who does this professionally or one of the at home pros will chime in but I went with paint on mine.

Now way I would leave it only primed, paint it. Primer is a filler and prep step. Most unpainted primers will give up after time especially if left in sun light.

wouldn't the vinyl top block the sunlight? epoxy primer will be fine

under a vinyl roof, primer would be enough,
that is how the factory did it with some paint overspray...
of course painting it would be the better option.

Had them painted the roof on the 71 Charger. Just remember the surface can not be "smooth wet sanded polished out" surface when the top goes on. If it is shiny and slick there is a higher chance the material will move around after being installed. But I was told that the painted surface would provide a little more of a barrier than just primer. I figured that if primer only lasted 40 years....an extra barrier of paint should help it last another 40-50. That will outlast me so...

Paint then scuff before the top.You can do it the way the factory did it if you want rust and rot like most did.
