Who wins can be subjective , your friend may always win because of the cars looks , sometimes it goes by crowd response. Definitely add a line lock that way you can pretty much sit there and spin till you blow the rear tires out and that is what usually wins , blowing the tires. see if you can find a pair of bias ply snow tires , minus studs , I have allways found those smoke the best , or at least they have always left the best marks on the road

Don't forget trashing the quarter panels when the tires blow.
yes I have seen that a number of times , but that is what it takes to WIN

Put some 276 gears in the car and get some wheel speed and you will make smoke. 4:30 gears suck for tire smoke imo. I'd leave it in hi gear and matt it until the tires or motor blows if you want to win. BTW a "burnout contest" is really stupid to me, to each there own. Learn to do one correctly in this with only a 1/4" of throttle petal movement. 1/8" too much petal and I over rev the motor hurting rods and valve springs. It only takes once for it to happen, toughest cars in all of drag racing to drive, including funny cars.

If you've got decent gear and some bias plies on the back just go 5K in second gear and dump it and jump on the brakes.
The burnouts that always impress me are ones where the car seems to instantly hit 6k and can hang the next gear and keep them roasting.
I've got a set of four of the old style coker bias ply redlines, G70-14s. I'm in Danbury/Bethel CT, one would need a tube but I'll sell them cheap, they're really just in my way. I'm not sure if I'd trust 50 year old tires to not shed a belt easily.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

Never again for me,I got the best crowd reaction, heard the guys on the radio talking about how mine was the best then they announced first, second and third and I was none of them.
Oh well, the crowd and I knew who one but I watched them hand over the $500 to somebody else.
Mine was a radio show stunt so I guess fair didnt matter.
who is that guy?

Good Morning Moparts,
On Saturday I was asked... well kind of was challenged by a good long time friend to enter my Demon in a Burnout contest in CT at a show in August. He has won every year he puts in. Here's some info on the cars, and how do those contest work? Rules? What is a winning formula using what I have?
He's running a heavy modified 440 4 speed in a 68 Dart with big sneakers outback(tubed- pro street look). 4.30 rear ratio. No juice or turbo.
I've got a roughly 380hp 71'340 with a LD340, Thermo quad, No juice or turbo, factory 340 manifolds with tti 2.5" exhaust (H-pipe) a 69'-833 low first gear box and 3.23 sure grip 8 3/4 rear with Cooper Cobra GT 225/60/15 all the way around. Please note: I don't want to hammer on or modify my car major to win. I've seen smaller cars win before over high HP monsters... How?
QUESTIONS: Can I use a bleach sprayer and do I need to hide it? If not bleach, what else works for smoke?
What tires smoke the best?
Line lock a must?
Lot's of weight in the rear or as light as possible?
Thanks for the help.
Joe
Tell your friend that your going to pass on wearing out your tires to see if your car can make more smoke than his does on a burn out contest If your absolutely going to participate then buy a old set of hard tires, inflate them to 40 +lbs and start the burn out in 3rd gear, rev the motor up to 5000+ RPM and dump the clutch, then control the engine RPM with the throttle You might wnat to put a pair of 2x4 around the width of the front tire thread width to use as a poor mans lineloc Also start the burn out on the front edge of the water, not in the middle of the puddle
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Don't forget the oil squirter into the air cleaner! Nothing like a lot of oil smoke mixed in with the tire smoke. Actually I think it's an entirely stupid idea, burnout contests in general. R.

Go down to your favorite rent a car and rent a Mustang, get insurance and, bolt on old tires. Use someone elses car not your own. Just my Digger73

The guys are right, it's not about the best burnout, but who has the best gimmick. Try pulling a dual pump windshield washer reservoir out of a Grand Cherokee, mounting it into the trunk, wire the pumps to a push button, and run the lines to the tops of the wheel wells. Fill it with a mix of Welch's Grapefruit Juice concentrate and water. You'll want to play around with the ratio to keep it as concentrated as possible, but not too thick to the point where it'll clog the pumps. Mmmmm, purple grape flavored burn outs.
