I installed Caltracs last weekend. I was running Tri City Launchers. Basically they are better version of super stock springs.
After great consideration I decided to go to Caltracs.
The car is a street strip car that should run 9's but I could never get the car to hook up like I needed. I was concerned about the ride on the street with Caltracs and mono leaves thats what held me back from making the switch. My first impression is the car feels totally different. The ride is no worse than with the heavy springs and might be a little better. The car no longer rises in the air everytime I step on the gas. It stays down. I tried launching it once with a cold tire on the street. It picked the front tires up about 3 inches and then the tires broke loose like I was on ice. With the other springs I couldn't get the front to come off the ground on the street the whole car would rise up and spin when I tried to launch it.
I really think these things are going to make a big difference in the on track performance. Now if it would just stop raining I would take it to the track and find out.

I have an E body cuda. I'll update after I get the car to the track. I just wanted to post don't avoid Caltracs because you drive the car on the street. They work fine.

I have mine set in the bottom hole with an airgap.
I was suprised how fast the front end came up. It never did that before and I didn't change anything in my front end settings.

You'll like them. They work great for me and our car's are setup pretty similar.
I'm surprised you got air under the front tires on the street ...mine never comes close to doing that. It just bottoms out the suspension and then blows the tires off.

Never understood why people would be scared of Cal-Tracs on the street...people drive ladder bars and 4 links across the country, but a leaf spring bolt on scares some people.

I never expected to pull the front tires. The front end is very loose from me trying to get the other springs to work. Everyone said to loosen the front. Now I might have to tighten the front end up so I don't put it on the bumper.

With really loose front shocks, my car wouldn't hook. I got it to bite once out of about 40 attempts and it went WAYY up in the air. Put my tighter front shocks back on and it hooks great. Leaves like the pic I posted. I have drag radials...not sure what tires you have?

You have adjustable front shocks right?

What intake/carb setup do you run? What kind of hood? Any pics?

I have front and rear adjustable shocks. I'm running a 528 hemi with a Ray Barton single four barrel intake. I am running a Prosystems 1150 Dominator.
My tires are Mickey Thompson 325x50x15 Drag radials.
If I remember correctly you have more torque than I do and you are running 4.56 gears.
I am running 4.10's and I'm only making 678 ftlbs of torque. Peak horsepower was 849 @ 7400 rpm.
If I can get these things to work I will never recomend SS springs to anyone. I spent alot of time with no real improvement. My 60fts were always bad and very inconsistant.

I'm running a shaker hood. If it ever stops raining I'll snap a shot of the car.

Mine's a little bigger (572") so I should have more torque, but mine was never on a dyno. I run 4.10s too, but I have 295-65 ET Street radials. You have more gear than I do w/ your shorter tires.

I'd love to see a pic of it! Is it a stock height shaker or has it been raised? I'd like to see some pics of how you mated the carb to the baseplate, etc. Always wanted to put a shaker hood on my car, but didn't think it would work as tall as it is. I have the Barton intake w/ a dominator and a 1" spacer.

I made the change from SS springs back when my car was a lot slower (mid 11s) and have never regretted it.

The shaker sits up slightly higher than stock but I've seen stock show cars with shakers at a bunch of different heights. Some way to low just peeking out of the hood.
The Barton intake has to have an inch machined off of it and everything just fits.
