Got some passes in last night. I'm having trouble getting the car from Trans brake release to full boost. Takes over 1 second to get there....might have a boost leak.

Also found out that my boost gauge was off, so what I thought was 8psi last time out was really 10psi. So even I went to 13psi last night, it was only a 3psi change.

That all being said...it ran 10.67@127.71!!!

The most amazing part is that we got it to leave on 8psi @ 4600rpm!

1.58 60ft actually had the front tire 2~ 3 inches up.

Just need to get the boost in quicker after the Trans brake release and the 60ft should come down.

Incredibly enough it went 10.67, 10.69, 10.69 back to back to back. Might even be able to go some rounds today!

Cool.... what did you get the timing up to... hope
you get some rounds in today

good running I was goning to say if all goes well you should pick up 4-5 tenths. I wonder if you went up on the gear if that would help? You have 2.76's correct? maybe try 2.94's or 3.23's Does anybody make a 3.08 for an 8.75???

The shallow gear loads the turbo harder than a steeper
gear BUT he is giving up low end acceleration.. there
is a happy balance with the gears... I know he put
in what he had laying around... the gear that was
in it when I put the turbo on it was SCARY noisy
with clunks and what not(it was the worst sounding
gear I ever heard that was still rolling)

Great job!

More boost is always more better! LOL

What are you using to tune this with?

On my MS3X setup - I set the launch limiter for roughly 2,000 rpm less than the convertor flashes to - and make the timing zero when on the button. That gets me full boost but still holds it back. When I let go of the button - I give it 36° of timing between the launch rpm and the convertor flash rpm, then back to 22° for the rest of the pass.

This setup lets me leave at full boost and makes the thing rocket out of the hole. It will take the extra timing because it's free-revving before it gets full load against the convertor.

Scott... do you have adjustable rear shocks... if
you do, loosen up the extension

I agree on the timing.

my SB Chevy w/Weiand 142 blower on 93 pump and some octain boost, likes 18* initial and 36* all in at 3K....and thats at 12psi...of course I don't have the volume you do, but you are running a cooler fuel...

can't believe goint to a 2.94 or 3.23 would hurt anything... did he switch to a glide???

Its a 727... I dont think the 3.23 would hurt either
but the lesser gears do load the turbo harder which
is what makes the boost

I'd think the 3.23 would build boost at lauch, we aren't talking about a 2600lb car here. I do know my next build will be a twin whisle car... for sure.

More load = more boost. Gear would hurt the spool.

But its already definitely tire limited, who needs more torque to the tires? Lol

Yeah mike, I have adjustable shocks, just need done test and tune time with it to play around.

What rpm are you leaving at, shifting at, and crossing? What cam?

Friday left at 4400 / 8psi. Shift about 5800. Crosses the stripe at 5500.

Cam is 224/218@.050", 114Las, .500" lift.

You need more gear.

I leave at 3800, 5 lbs boost, shift at 6000 and cross at 6000. .520 hydraulic roller, 220 duration.

Im not sure I agree with this. Quicker rpm = more exhaust flow which equals quicker boost. There is a point where to much gear isn't helping spool but I don't think your even close to that. Stock Grand Nationals had 3.42s and spooled real fast/Of course the turbo was small also. My old gn had a 6157 turbo and I used to foot brake to about 2,800 and it was about 10 pounds of boost. But as soon as I let off the brake it would shoot up to 28 pounds.

This thing has lots of issues really. It's got it's tongue hanging out at 6k, and it's beyond done pulling. So more gear would mean more finish line rpm. Crosses the stripe at 5500 already, so there really isn't much room in the room range to fix that. However the converter is slipping 25%, so if I could fix that the rpm might come down. It's possible that the gear would help the slip too, but I don't know that for sure.

Also, I can build more boost on the starting line, that's not an issue. But the 255/60 drag radials won't take any more. So again another reason why more gear would seem to be going the wrong way.

Hard to say. I am 100% certain that the combo could be better, but I'm not sure if I want to spend any more money on the 8 3/4" (how hard can you really leave in a 3700lbs car and a Trans brake!), or if I want to put more cam in it for done more rpm (with the stock rods!)

4-cylinder stuff so take it for what its worth..

1) The Reliant would go quicker and quicker the more the final drive ratio was lowered, started out with a 3.50 ratio and final change was all the way down to 2.60. Car would come out of the hole with 27 pounds of boost and inside a second or two be at 35 psi.

I'd shift at 5500 and the engine would be done at 6000. 2.5 was a torque monster making over 500 ft/lbs

2) Optimum air fuel ratio of the car was around 12:1 under boost and go through the traps at 1650-1700 EGT with probes about an inch out from the number two and four exhaust port.

Turbos LOVE load, my advice is to change the rear end gearing. The top fuel guys found this out years ago but NHRA froze the final drive gearing because the speeds were getting too high on the top end.

Notice the car has no problem launching and is pretty much in third gear right away (10.41 at 132 mph)-

If I remember right, this is with a 24.5" M&H slick down at Cecil County.
