Driver side engine compartment #1
Why are the top of the fenders painted black (where the bolt to the inner fender)??
Car was careful Z-Barting when new. That is an aftermarket dealer installed undercoating system. So that is part of the dealer undercoating put down to keep rust off that area which does rust out on Mopar commonly in the Rust-Belt.
IIRC, that Zeibart undercoating is also sprayed into the inside cavities of the doors, quarter panels, frame, etc. Maybe someone from the rust belt could explain that system better.

Pretty-much covers it...
Typically, holes were drilled in areas not accessible(doors;rockers;A-pillars)to allow the undercoat to be sprayed...Worked well IF followed-up for inspection and re-spray...
Results may vary...(Dependent on who held the wand)...
Took my '71 B-body and sprayed inside the fenders, doors, and quarters after the resto...Wheelwells, and bottom of floorpans, too...
A good idea for a driver in the salt mines, IMO...
Doing well after 20+ years...

Any idea what a car like this is worth?
It was not for sale. I think the a member here sold a similar condition survivor 72 Duster column auto that was TX9 black recently.
Being a 72 with sharktooth grille, similar looks to a 70/71 body, and being TX9 black should make the car worth more than this 73. Just a WAG at 15-20% more.
IIRC, there was a survivor FY1 yellow 72 Duster 340 that has traded hand somewhat recently too.

If it is a true survivor, the strut rod washer in the picture has me wondering: SOME were installed as seen in the picture and others are installed with the convex side facing the bushing. I have seen them both ways. To me, the picture looks like the correct procedure but I have actually seen these washers with "THIS SIDE OUT" on the concave side. Strange.
the original ones i have seen we like the pictures above. the ones installed like you say that i have seen were replacements. but who knows for sure what the heck happened on the assembly line.

The owner said the left front fender has been repainted due to some dent or scrape.
I could ask the owner what has been fixed over the years. He seems very honest an humble.
I think original owners on these survivor cars are a lot more truthful than the guys who buy them. These survivor cars get traded hands and they get "washed clean" of things that can be viewed negatively. Like a game of telephone.

Sad the way these cars get flipped over and over....
