I've made the decision to put the Dart Up for sale in the coming weeks, I had plans of going back to a SB but just kinda lost interest in that deal. I'm going over to the dark side with a S/C style dragster with a BBC once the Dart is gone. Being a younger guy with a desire to move up in drag racing with a somewhat limited budget, I just can't justify paying 2+ times more for everything mopar. I mean for what i was going to have in my stock stroke 340 i could have a 900 HP BBC for the Rail! I will always like the Mopar stuff, but I just can't justify it anymore. Props to those of you who have been Mopar loyal and paid the "mopar tax" as I call it for years. You guys have my respect, and you all are real mopar guys, and I guess I'm not. Thanks for all the help you have given me over the last few years. PS ill still hang around these forums if you'll let me.

When you see how often a 900hp cheppy lets go...You may think of comming back. Pipe racks as we call them, have almost zero value when sold used. Compare that to a mild collector car with a little Nostalgia, and there ain't no comparison.

Personally, I would rather race an A-body 340 car over a dragster any day. What would I choose if I wanted to go faster on a budget, a Nostalgic Altered I could run my 340 in.....A Fiat or somthing like a Bantam with a 340 on E85 and a set of good flowing W2 heads, and your in the 9's....on very little budget. Finding the right car, for the right price will take time. Wait for the right car...

Well, all engines come apart, none of them are perfect, but it still boils down to how much it costs to put em back together. I know lots of folks don't like dragsters, (they think they aren't cool) well I'm not worried about being cool, or what anyone's opinion is for that matter. I've had a dream of being able to run and be competitive in some bigger races I.E. National Events or Big $$ bracket races and I want to chase the dream a while now, while im still young and see where it leads. Will I be back? Who knows? Am I making a mistake? Maybe, I've made plenty before. But I don't want to look back and wish I had done some of these things that I want to do.

I will build my MOPAR engine a lot cheaper than you will pay someone to build you a chevy engine.

Dragsters win Races!!!! I have been from day 1 & will always be a Mopar man...but build me a 800+ cu in Mopar engine. In the chevy world a 706 cu in engine is considered small...in our Mopar World it is considered impossible.

I know several racers who went to Chevy power and tell me its cheaper.
The biggest advocate of Chevys being cheaper to race has,on several occasions borrowed my other friends Mopar powered car to end up going several rounds while his Chevy was broke. Cheaper isn't always better.
If you can build a 900 hp Chevy big block for what a stock displacement small block costs, you have been shopping somewhere you shouldn't.

If you are looking at saving money, I question a BBC being the answer.

I thought you had a good basis for a quick car with the 499. All it probably needed was slightly better heads, more converter and chassis tuning.

It would be cool to do it Mopar Powered....but there has to be a valid reason 99.9% of the dragsters at any track run BBC's and you rarely see them coming apart....at least around here.....have fun and be safe

Mopar is a body style to me that I think looks nice. The engines who cares as if you have any HP there is nothing Mopar there.Same goes for Chevy and Ford.It is all aftermarket BUT Chevy has plenty of parts you dont have to wait months for (cheaper), heck yes.My Mopar engine builder is building my Chevy engine, I dont expect it to have any trouble what so ever and to run the same as my Mopar engines Two days to get a new block any way you want it. Try that with Mopar. The dragster Yeah your going more rounds and they look cool to me and women prefer them, win,win situation. The last of my rant would be one of the fastest HEMI's on here (door car) is sitting between the rails of a Mustang! Whatttt? Buy the dragster !Enjoy Hope to see ya at a race I will be the guy wearing a mask if I have my Chevy with me and not my Mopars

Good parts cost money, no matter what brand they fit I have learned over the years to buy the best parts you can afford to race with Have fun and don't look back

Just because you have too race a chevy powered car does not mean you can no longer be a Mopar person. At one time I had my dream Mopar before I cut it up making a Race-Car out of it,now its time for me to restore another one as close to the same as possible!
