Hello everyone, I'm doing away with my mechanical fuel pump due to constant leakage issues. Already decided on an electric. So, I bought a Holley Red pump. I cannot find a good place to mount it. It hits the rear differential no matter where I try to put it. I'm trying to keep it as near the tank as possible. Does anyone make a cylinderical style pump? I'd have room for that. I just can't use one that has to hang down. I've looked at the Holley 12-927, but it's designed for TBI at 15psi. I could use a regulator to get it to 7psi. I need some help choosing! Engine is a 512 stroker with dual 4's, in a 1970 Challenger. Body and undercarriage is stock. Thanks, Jeff

Well most all of the inline pumps require a return regulator because they don't run an internal bypass. The Holley 12-700 is the one I have been looking into for my car with the Robmc bypass regulator.
This pump looks like it would work http://www.holley.com/12-700.asp
A Carter pump is a little smaller than the Holley red and they run forever

The Carter pump will run forever. That is so true

How would you mount a electric in tank pump and wire it safely without buying a new purpose built tank?

Hey guy's, thanks for the replies! I'm not sure what I'm going to end up doing. May just go back with a mechanical style...I just like the way it starts so much easier with the electric pump. Seems like it's always something! Thanks, guy's! Jeff

Most electric pumps don't suck worth ahoot, they push real well My message is to mount the elctric pumps below the bottom of the tank, I use to mount my Holleys on the rear sub frame inner rail right at the bottom of the sub frame rail where it straighten out in front of the wheel well You can loosen the bracket and move the pump up and down to make it fit Make sure and retighten it after setting it up Be careful on the heat from the exhaust, sheild the pump and lines when possible

I assumed that was a new tank when you cut and welded on it, yes? If not did you use a non flammable gas to fill it before cutting and welding on it Does it run out of fuel under hard aceleration when the fuel quanity is less than 1/4 tank full

Yes it was a new tank. Haven't driven the car yet so I don't know about running out of fuel at hard acceleration. A sump box was installed inside the tank and the fuel pump is inside the sump. On initial operational checks I put five gallons in the tank and ran the pump to zero pressure. I looked in the tank and most of the fuel was gone. I don't know how much was left. Looked less than a gallon to me.
