I loved my Gen 2 viper brakes.

but...bigger is better, right?

I'm going to be adding these to the front of my truck instead.

Gen 3 viper brakes.

Here's a run down of the differences:

Gen 1, 2 viper brakes:

13" rotors, 38/42mm pistons in a 4 piston brembo caliper

Gen 3, 4 viper brakes:
14" rotors, 40/44mm pistons in a 4 piston brembo caliper.

Scored these off Ebay, and with the money I made by selling my Gen 2 brakes to another Dakota guy...will *hopefully* pocket about $100 from the upgrade

(finds wood to knock on because bad luck seems to find me easily and what seems easy or cheap...ends up costing me in the end )

I agree. I switched from the 2 piston PBRs and 13s to the 14s and Gen IIIs. Awesome, especially with race pads!

Wearing out my 11.75 cop brakes will be fun. I've seen the 14" Viper G3 conversion from Dr. Diff. It was an instant excusable expense lol.

Awwww....how cute...look at the little baby brakes...

Maybe one day your calipers will grow up.

Let us know when you get enough brake to finally lock up the tires, or you enter the 24hr Lemans.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Ok. I have enough to lock up the tires.

but...it's not about locking up tires, is it?

They will. my wheels are 19x10. these brakes fit into 18" wheels. (stock viper wheels are 18x10 front, and 19x13 rear)

I have 18" wheels to. My rotors wer SRT 14.25" and that could be all the difference. My wheels although 18" necessitated I machine the rotors down to 13.9".

The shape of the wheels is what made the difference for you I would guess.

I have rotors of similar diameter (just over 14") along with 8 piston calipers and they clear my 18" wheels just fine. (with some room to spare even)

Different wheels have different clearances....some more than others obviously. (Depending on the shape of the outer, the spoke, the center, etc)

I didnt know he had 19's for one. And yes I was just pointing out something that I learned from experience. Especially the cheaper cast wheels like mine!

Braking capacity beyond locking tires, or entering 24hrs Lemans, is about what?

If you have to ask, then you never will truly understand the appeal of having big brakes showing through from behind your wheels.

Sometimes I wonder why you even post in this section.

big brakes:

increased brake force provides better ability to modulate the brakes as needed.
increased rotor area provides larger heat sink to dissipate heat for repeated stops
Brightly colored multi-piston fixed calipers and large rotors are more attractive than tiny single piston floating calipers.

Seriously, you can knock it off now. you're just becoming annoying at this point. I find it hard to believe that you don't understand why bigger brakes are better...otherwise you'd be advocating that we all still use drum brakes on all 4 corners of our late model daily drivers. Because, after all, with stock 9" drum brakes on all 4 corners, I was able to lock up the wheels on my Cuda.

You left out the time honored "mine are bigger then yours" reason, seriously.

Apparently, you do.

You're in the realm of massive overkill. Since I don't drive Pike's Peak or Watkins Glen nor do I have massive steamroller tires I have yet to find any situation where my 11.75" rotors with organic pads and 11" drums are inadequate.

But if having the biggest set on the block makes you happy great, but don't p1ss on someone else's parade if they don't think massive overkill is the ticket.

Most people don't need a classic muscle car either, because just about anything is "overkill" compared to a Geo Metro.

Find something else to complain about that doesn't involve senselessly being negative toward a fellow board members enthusiasm or passion for his vehicle..

Really?

Maybe you ought to direct that to the appropriate place, which isn't me.

Now that it's been said I believe it's time for you to leave this forum.

The major clearance problem is between the caliper and the back of the spokes on the wheel.
However, since you had multi piston calipers previously I don't think you'll have a problem.
