I picked up a 67 Belvedere that has not run in probably 10 plus years. I cleaned up the engine bay, have fuel to the carb and got it to crank, but there is no spark. I took out the points, cleaned them, they look good and set them to the matchbook I found in the glovebox.. lol.. When the engine cranks and the points open I do not see a spark there. Where would you go next? Coil?
Thanks.

As said dont try to use 10 year old gas.Pull the cap as you say no spark.Turn on ignition and open the points with a screwdriver. They should spark. The condensor could be bad.Check the ballast resistor for power in and out. Then check for power at the coil.If its good test light on coil neg and crank it.The light should flash. If not could be points and condensor and or dist not turning.Check the cap and rotor. The cap button could have went bye bye.Make sure the rotor strap is in place also.Ive seen some where they fall off.Use a good coil lead also.Wires could be bad after 10 years.Rocky

Take the yellow "ign" wire off of the starter relay to disable the starter. Have a helper hold the ign key to "start". You open/close the points with a screwdriver carefully & see if the coil secondary wire (dist end) held 1/4" from a ground produces sparks. If not (in decending order) the coil is not recieving fire at the positive primary terminal (check bulkhead) or the coil is shot (ohm it) or point base not grounded to dist or dist housing not grounded to block (not likely their it but check their continuity with the meter on ohms). If good there & wont start has the dist housing been turned? EDIT you'd also want to check if the coil positive primary terminal is recieving fire thru the ballast in ign1 (with key in run position) & if not then bulkhead/ballast/ign sw

Thanks Guys, I will give it a go this weekend. I am not using the old gas, I have the pump sucking from a Gerry Jug. The wires all look good and I cleaned most grounds etc. Its pretty original under there too. I appreciate the help and tips. Thanks.
