And about the only difference between it and a stock iron one is the weight.

You're wrong on that one!

And from all the dyno tests i have seen its not any better then a Edelbrock Performer Intake , maybe a couple horsepower at best - So why would anyone spend the time and money on a used DP/CH Intake and not knowing what your getting as far as its been milled or heli-coils etc. when you can get the Performer or Performer RPM brand new ???

To the OP: NO, you cannot use it on a 383 or 400. It is too wide. If you had a 413, 426 wedge or 440, it would and it would be better than a stock intake, regardless of others' opinions. However, for you, the DP4B is about equivalent. Or a Performer. Actually, there was an exhaustive 383 intake manifold test with more than 10 intakes, find it and go. R.

That would be incorrect ; the "performer" is basicly a stock replacement manifold that performs at the same level as a stocker. The RPM is better but it can create hood clearance issues with some cars...requiring drop base air cleaners & modified throttle/kickdown linkage.
The CH4B on the other hand performs like an RPM but doesn't have all the installation headaches.
Here's a good dyno shootout to look at :

The Hot Rod Test of the 383 Intakes - The DP4 versus the Performer (Stock Factory Intake Was Not In That Test)
From what I remember there was like 1 ft lb difference between the two and something like 4-5 hp WOW !!!
And personally I have seen dyno numbers on both intakes and they where within a few hp either way on a mildly built 383 - Apples to Apples
HOT ROD You'll also see that there's a group of single-planes that are virtually identical (the M1, Street Dominator, and TM6) and some dual-planes that also tested very closely (the Action Plus, DP4B, and Performer). The numbers are so close that you would never know the difference in a car.
The Performer RPM will more clearly outrun the other dual-planes and the differences among the single-planes will become more distinct.

.... if all these dyno tests are right .... WHY didn't Eddy just copy the old design with some new cosmetic diffs and sell it that way?
If you study the torque & HP #'s the Perf. RPM is better overall than the CH4B. With a higher peak HP at a lower rpm.
And to answer your question...........the taller newer design is aestetically better looking for marketing too.
The CH4B is a great intake for a stealth underhood upgrade over the heavy cast iron. I'd use one.
DeanO ..... what I meant to compare it to was the regular Performer intake .... if I was Eddy ... I would have copied the base CH4B .... and then tweated it .... BUT they didn't.
Eddy does some things "funny" anyways .... a couple of years ago I asked them for some info on both the SP2P and the Streetmaster and they said they knew ZIP about it.
INTERESTING ....even though I made it plain that I was buildiing a low rpm torque motor with MPG in-mind with a spreadbore carb ...
