I returned a few weeks later with my own car a 1950 Olds coupe. Headers consisted of a stub flange with flexible tubing held on with muffler clamps and the collectors were huge coffee cans.
IT WAS LEGAL

So you were the one that started the Coffee can craze

You are a lucky man

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Dang, you raced when you were 6? Nice job. But just wait until Bob hears about this post. Nice Uncle Fred. Have you been bringing cooked peppers to these races since then?

Yes we didnt have bracket racing back then... but we
only won a trophy and over time if you didnt have money
you didnt even win a trophy... I knew that at the
end of the day if they didnt wipe your class off
the window that was cool... riding down Woodward
with your class still on the car was cool(that showed
that you won that day)

congrats on 50 years of drag racing, it's the only sport that never stopped being awesome.
in April of '63 I took delivery of my new Plymouth Savoy superstock 426, cost out the door $2904.00, with that car I had the best seat in the house to see Tommy Grove run the Melrose missile at Fremont- I was in the other lane..
my first race was 1960 at Lodi california (kingdon) with my '53 Olds.
still hacking away with my restored 1965 Jim Davis AA/FD with a 392 hemi- is there anything else?

By the end of the 63 season I made the switch to a bright red 60 Fury 361 305 hp pushbutton. Undefeated in trophy class for three seasons as a D/SA dig the square steering wheel

Got an outside shot of the '60 Plymouth? Would love to see it.

When I saw the Greek running this past week end , it hit me that there is no seniors division or old timers league.
Usually when I hear " 50 years " , it is in reference to a job or marriage..........and spoken as if it were a prison sentence.
Congratulations Fred.
I have to agree with Thumper.....you probably have more stories than many of us have passes.
