You didn't miss much Yes, that is an aftermarket bubble and the openings were not trimmed all the way as originals were (that angular line in the center upper oppenings shouldn't be there). Excluding pilot cars, advertising cars, and factory promo cars etc. 1970 bubbles were most commonly textured argent, (early production) red cars were painted red, and a few very late 70 cars reprotably came with the 1971 style black organosol bubbles. That said the vast majority of 1970 Shaker cars came with textured argent bubbles. Conversly, In 1971 there could have been a few early cars that came with a leftover textured argent bubble but the vast majority were all black organosol. Excluding pilot cars, advertising cars, and factory promo cars etc. The grills in regular production line shaker bubbles were always painted a shade of satin black.

Thanks for the responses guys, but please know that I mean no disrespect when I say that I am not looking for info on what was stock. I know what was done at the factory, and unfortunately the previous owner opted to resto-mod my '70 Challenger; so-much-so that there is no sensible option of going back to original. The resto-mod included installing a SHAKER hood, and painting practically EVERYTHING body color (dark metallic blue; not an original color). I am changing what I consider a "bad" decision of having so many things painted body color. Hence, one of the things I recently did was having the SHAKER bubble painted satin black (I realize there were bubbles painted Organosol black, but satin black was a lot easier to get done). I felt this was a better choice for the car rather than having the bubble painted body color, or argent silver, or any other color. I just stripped the "heavily applied" dark metallic blue paint off the grills, and am looking for "opinions" on finishing them. I am not looking to do what was stock, because this car is so far from stock, it's not even funny. I am interested in opinions. If this was your resto-mod, how would you finish the original cast aluminum SHAKER grills? Would you paint them? If so, what color, and what paint? Would you polish them, or have them plated? I know the pictures I included in my original post may not be factory SHAKER set-ups. I posted them because of my interest in the color scheme I am considering for my car. Thanks.

Thanks to the last three members who gave their opinions. More is appreciated. I am leaning toward something in the silver family?
If custom is your choice, I'd finish the grilles in light argent, and the lattice/grille grids in black

Hmmm. That's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought about that option. I just might have to give it serious consideration. Thanks for the idea. BTW - I knew this was the "Resto" forum when I posted to it. I wasn't sure this would be the appropriate forum for my query. That's why I opened with an apology. If the Moderator feels it should be moved to another forum, that's okay with me. Although the car wasn't restored to factory original by the previous owner, "restoration" is still present in "resto-mod".

Since you're going a custom route did you think about color matching the shaker bubble to the interior/stripes then the custom colored grilles ???
I had thought about having the bubble painted white to coordinate with the white interior and side-stripe. I believe I've seen pictures of other SHAKER cars where the bubble looked liked it was painted white, but after considerations, I decided to go with satin black to coordinate with the front grill/headlight bezels. I just thought that a white bubble would look too obtrusive. I paid a body shop to have it painted satin black about 9 months ago, so I don't want to have to repay for another color change. Thanks for the suggestion though.
