Dave just finished an engine for my friend for his 1970 Road Runner convertible 440 six barrel. 440 .040 over, box stock edelbrock heads. 11:1 compression, 4.15" crank. Uses stock six barrel holley carbs, no port work, no exotic camshaft. Flat tappet hydraulic cam, runs unported iron Hp exhaust manifolds. Sounds pretty tame.

Engine installed back in car and ran on chassis dyno at Jakes auto. Car made 420 HP at the wheels and almost 500 foot pounds of torque. This is with the stock orange box, stock MP distributor..etc. We are going to swap to a revnator box and a hotter coil. Should see 430+ Hp at the wheels. Not bad for a mild build! Thanks a lot Dave!

Sounds like a nice build. Should run very good. Its funny you mention the orange box as I still use an orange box with an Acell super coil I have had had for many years. I do use a Mallory dist with the setup but it has not missed a beat and has run 10.70's shifting at 6200. I want to try the MSD setup one day just to see if it helps at all. I will say my eng starts right up every time with no trouble even when its in the 30's and 40's here in the winter. Does your friend plan to race his car at all or will it be just a driver to have fun with ? Ron

We have worked with Dave on few cars playing with ignition boxes and have seen as much as 25 hp loss with orange box. Mostly the biggest lose in upper rpm range

Interesting as I hear guys say the orange box retards the timing for them at higher rpm's. But I bought my orange box in 1998 and it does not seem to retard the timing at all at higher rpm's. Seems alot of people think the later ones built after 2000 and up give the problems. I do know we took this orange box of my boys Dart and put MSD on it and it ran no faster at all. Ron
