I haven't posted anything regarding my A12 project lately, mostly because of the lack of progress.
Two weeks ago I was in Detroit for the first time. While I didn't have a lot of extra time there, I decided to take a drive out to Lynch Road, where many awesome Mopars were built, including my 1969 A12 Roadrunner.

I'm not sure if I had the correct location, but a quick internet search of the old Plymouth Factory on Lynch Road and the help of my GPS brought me to a dead-end on lynch road. There was just one building there. The business there was "The Crown Group". Any chance this might have been the original location of the Plymouth Plant?

Here's a picture I took today. The Dana 60 and been completely gone through. Tanked, Acid dipped, powder coated, rebuilt with 4.10s and a new set of Detroit Eaton Springs. Obviously I still have a few things to do to it before I bolt it in.

The 18 spline 4 speed has also been rebuilt, and is ready to be mated up to the 440 that's down-town at the machine shop.

I'm planning on having it off the jig and sitting on its suspension in June.

Hang in there! I know everyone has different timelines, schedules and budgets. I bought this car nearly 3 years ago and I was hoping to be about finished by now, I'm not even close. A lot of the big stuff is done, but it will be all the little crap that really slows me down.

I've heard that the area is in a pretty "tough" neighborHOOD now....had a plan a few years ago to maybe have a meeting/reunion of A12's in Detroit area and take a drive over there and one of the old guys from Chrysler suggested "you might not want to do that, well for sure not in the evening and especially not at night"

How was that area anyway?

Haha...yeah.I was taken back by how "beat-down" that area was...honestly, I've seen nothing like it here in the states....it was REALLY bad. Lots of abandoned buildings and boarded up homes, burnt down, and falling apart homes and buildings everywhere. I'm not putting down Detroit, I really enjoyed my visit, but it does have some really bad areas.

That is the correct location which was once Briggs manufacturing. Briggs was sold to Chrysler in 1953.

The original multi story brick office area that was in front of the steel wall was torn down. The rest of the entire factory area is still there. What your are looking at is the outside wall of the area where the final inspection line was located. The cars traveled along that area to the east and out the door then the cars were driven across the street to the north to be staged for delivery by truck or train.

Did you notice the original Eldon (Detroit Axle) plant was torn down last year. The axle plant was located just to the east of Lynch Road Assembly on the other side of the rail road tracks.

MMC/ ICCA Detroit. The Motor City or where ever there is Mopars

Probably not a good idea...

You venture down there, you're on your own...

It's the real deal...

Andy,

You sent me a PM, and I accidentally deleted it...sorry

On the leaf springs...I'd use something like "cast blast" paint to keep that steel color...there may be other products out there. Possibly a flat clear would work too.

Yeah, the Roll Bar is just staying in for support until I take it off the jig.
