I am considering doing to denso alternator swap and was looking at the info in the tech archives from AndyF. I see that the kit is sold through mancini to mount it, but looking at the picture the mounts look the same as whats on my 383 now. Is the denso a straight bolt on, or do I need to change the mounts? The picture may just be tricking me, but they look exactly the same to me... http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/elec/34.html

I dont know about anyone else, but I put an denso IR alt. off a toyota prerunner and just bolted it up to the stock mounts! Cant remember if I shimed it or not but it fits great.

I'm not trying to be difficult, it comes naturally....

Why would you even post that?

I love how clean your engine compartment is but I do question the location of the fuel filter...
Possible fire hazard on top of the alternator like that.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

me too. except I used one off an 02 dodge ram van, 130 amp. I did have to trim one spacer, though. took about 5 minutes with a dremel.
It's a long read, but it shows how I did it and what parts I used. I was into the whole thing for under 150. but I also bought stuff to go from single to dual field: http://www.moparchat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61642

I needed more amps too, but took a different route. I had my squareback, dual-field alternator's stator rewound and heavy duty diodes installed at the local alternator shop for under $200.
Of course it bolts right up to the stock mount and looks bone stock for a 1970. It puts out 70 amps at idle and just over 125 amps above 2000 rpm. I upgraded the wiring and did the bulkhead/ameter bypass sugested in the article on Alpar.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

90a Denso Stock brackets Stock heads Only modification was to trim the stud on the back. Just how it worked out for me on a Small Block. I would still like to get my hands on a smaller pulley for this alternator..or a larger crank pulley. We'll see, may be serpentine on a magnum block soon enough. But the charging at idle with 90w H4 lights on, stereo, electric fuel pump, and my fan pullin 25-30a...it's not quite enough at idle. http://www.goodysgotacuda.com/DensoUpgrade.html

small blocks are tight with stock heads and a stock alt. I was at a friends shop and he had an cuda with a small block and eddy's. he had to shave the head to get the stock alt to fit. Denso? forget it on that one. that is a situation where you need special brackets. I think they ended going with something out of a ford. could have been a denso, don't know.
Actually the Denso 60 amp alternators fit better on a SB Mopar with Edelbrock heads than do the original type alternators. A SB with Eddy heads is a great candidate for a Denso swap.

I would worry more about that kink in the upper radiator hose!!

the stock alt i saw was very very close to the eddy head on that small block. since my denso is closer to the head than my stock one was, I assumed they were fatter/deeper...my bad...i thought that most of the denso alts you see were physically the same size, but built differently inside for different amp ratings.
