This is one of those "Can you do this" kind of questions. I have a Viper spec T56. I have a stock Mopar Big Block bellhousing. I know there is a Quicktime bellhousing to mate up the Viper T56 to the Big Block. Now, taking into consideration, the input shaft length of the T56 and eliminate the hydraulic throwout bearing, can a, say 1/4" adapter plate be used to mate the T56 to the Mopar bellhousing? There is already something like this for the Chevy guys.

Why not get the bell you need?
There's a QuickTime bell for a small block as well as a big block, for viper spec T-56 transmissions.

Because it's cheaper to just put a piece of 1/4" flat plate on the bellhousing he has ...

The problem with this is the T56 input shaft is shorter than the mopar 833 input shaft. So you take a mopar 833 bellhousing, stick a 1/2" aluminum adapter plate on there and I think you'll find you're around 1-2" too short. The viper t56 has the longest of all the t56 input shafts, however I think it is still a little shorter than the 833 input, made worse yet when you slap on an adapter.

This same idea has been rattling around in my head for some time, it would be nice to know the actual input shaft lengths of both if somebody has them to measure.

I actually have all of those things. The Viper T56, the big block bellhousing and the A833. I just wanted to know if it could be done or has anyone done it before. Fabbing up an adapter plate is a whole lot less expensive that a $550 bellhousing. If possible….

What is the T56 input shaft length from tip of pilot to the case face?

I will post the measurement tomorrow when I get to work.I also have an 833 sitting next to it on the bench and I will measure that as well

Went out to the garage this morning and threw pushed these things together just to eyeball it. I'm not so much concerned with the overall length of the input shafts, just the point where the splines drop off. I guess I'll throw a ruler on it later.

Is an adapter plate worth the work and effort? A stock big block bell is always worth a few bucks. Yes you'd have to kick in an extra few hundred bucks to buy the quick time bell, but at least you would also get a scatter shield in the process. Worth a few bucks for my peace of mind.

There were several different lengths of input shafts put into the t56's, and I'm not sure which one the quicktime bell is designed for. Is it designed with the viper unit in mind or the much more common GM camarobird units?
