'70 Challenger, 440. TTI 2.5" system with X-pipe. Currently have Dynomax Super Turbos on the car. My understanding is they are more restrictive than a straight through muffler like the Ultraflo or Magnaflow. In addition, I have the typical drone in the 1500-2000 rpm range.

Would like a quieter sound so I can hear the radio, have a conversation, and not have to wear earplugs. However, want the badass sound when I stomp on it.

So, what are my options to have a straight through system, no drone, able to have a conversation while cruising, and nice sound when I stomp on it. Don't want the Dynomax VT's because I don't trust moving parts in a muffler. Thanks.

Wrong.....The Dynomax Super Turbos are some of the least restrictive mufflers, at least in the 2.5 or 3" varieties. Add a resonator farther back to cut the drone.

the mufflers you want to switch to are straight thru design , it's only going to get louder.

Are you running stock manifolds with TTI pipes?

dynomax VT sounds like exactly what you want....straight through, aggressive when on the throttle, drone free at cruise....

or how about just putting some quiet, restrictive mufflers on, then electric cutouts in front of them hooked up to a normally closed vacuum switch? vacuum applied (cruise) and you have no power going to them, and exhaust flows through the mufflers, stomp on it, vaccuum drops to 0, you get electrical current which opens the cutouts?

Ihave the Dynomax turbos on my stroker without any drone issues. I believe that my B body has more pipe after the muffler than an E body though.

I have been running the super turbos for 13 years on my SB and BB since 2005 with no drone. I run headers and was wondering if the drone was more likely with stock exhaust manifolds??

I know, but I worry about that little flap making noise, getting stuck or the spring breaking.

Do your pipes go all the way to the back of the car ? Mine do and I run a 3" X-pipe system with the Ultra-Flows and its not to bad. I listen to the radio and talk to anyone in the pass seat. Yes it is a little noisey but not bad to me for what it is. But if your tail pipes are not to the rear of the car it can be anoying if the pipes come out on the side of the car. Ron

I the box tips make more noise I went to downturn tailpipes and its definitly quieter Plus the stock ones are barely 1.58 inch where they enter the tailpipe

Mine are the TTI stock appearing tips and are the same size as the rest of the system. They'll be staying on.

Super Turbos are MORE restrictive than Ultraflos. Depends on your HP of your engine. May not be enough to notice in the seat of the pants. The 2.5" Turbos neck down inside the case. 3"er's don't I believe.

What about a straight through muffler with a resonator farther back?

Hemi E bodies had a resonator at the rear of the tailpipe so you could surely go that route with a straight thru canister type muffler or a factory resonator ?

along with a sound deadening matt on the floorpan underneathe the rear seat. Believe it or not, certain mufflers will vibrate the floorpan to cause a droaning sound at certain speeds. I did a full floorpan on a '69 runner with Flow(rust)master 40 series 2 chamber and it quieted interior noise alot! As for muffler choice with good flow and sound, I'm stuck on Borlas.

Dont blame you as I like the looks of the stock tips. They would stay on if was mine also. Ron

A resonator in the tailpipe will work fine.I would not be afraid to run the VT muffler. The flap and spring are stainless steel and I haven't heard of one breaking.
I just switched to the Borla Pro XS on my mustang with long tube headers,x-pipe,and no cats and it is pleasant to drive again.

I have had hemi(longer case) super turbos on my Polara for years.Love them but they did drone with tips out the back.Switched to factory style turn down tips just below the bumper and it is damn near quiet at cruise.I hear the engine more.
