I bought a 6.1 hemi with a damaged head from a broken valve. has anyone had luck with welding and machining the combustion area of these.

I would talk to Brett Miller about that he has good contacts that can fix that. I think his handle on here is w5dart.

Guess you're going to find out the quality of that head when you send it off. Not all "aluminum" heads can be repaired.

I would think it will be cheaper just to buy another head, new or used..

They're fairly inexpensive from what I've read..

They come complete too.

Chris..

800-1200 so far. I called one place that has them advertised for $499 bare and he said he is going to sell the whole lot for $1000 and then tried to sell me a damaged one for the same price.

Larry Demers (engine builder/racer in Iowa) has a guy near him that is really good (except in my case, but a s**t casting W5 was the prob) with cyl head repair. 712-792-4381 (yes...it's a NAPA store, that's the right number).

Repair it,I know 2 people that are real good one is Terry Walters he is the closest to you I will find his # and post it this afternoon. He repaired a head in almost as bad a shape as yours for me. The other is in Tucker Ga he is very good also.Another head is not as cheap as you would think, because it has to be made to match your other head.

PS I think his web site is www.terrywaltersracing.com
