Go with viton metal clad, NOT Teflon. If you need some, let me know.

I agree. Dry the valve stems.

i use teflon on my street/strip 496, and never had a problem. about as severe duty as one could imagine. .002 on the intakes, .003 on the exhausts. with bronze guides, i've never had any issues at all. i swear by them. no more oil where it doesn't belong.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

They work sure. When you take a lot of engines apart, you get to see the difference between those and the viton style. It very apparent the dryness and actual wear on the valve stems. The valve stems often are scratched and looked like they ran dry.I will only use Viton, but will Teflon work, sure, just not for me after seeing the difference. Every engine and head I do gets viton. just my preference after years of tearing down engines and noting the difference. I used them years ago like everyone, but I feel there is a better option now. If you have good luck with those then certianly no reason to change.

If something works better,I'm all for it.You build more engines than I do,so I'm glad you posted why.
