A833 18 Spline Experts Opinion Needed Please!!! #1400373

Getting all the components ready to install and I noticed something. On the "Cluster Shaft" or counter shaft gear, there are three teeth that look to have been cross cut from the factory where they ride on 3rd gear? Either that, or something went wrong somewhere, but there are zero issues with all the other components, etc. Any thoughts?

I know, I know, unfortunately I didn't think about that till I got home from the shop! I was hoping someone would just say they were cut that way from the factory! If not, I will get a picture next week and post........................

Paul - Why don't you check with Jamie Passon or Wayne Brewer to see if they have a replacement part?

I don't think its broke. I believe it was a bad forging to start with. I have seen this a couple times on clusters and speed gears also. Not ideal but I'm sure it was run this way for a long time. How does 3rd gear look?

Hey Bruce! I looked and they both have replacement parts that are a bit pricey, and that will take money away from Karl. I need to get the body and paint done so I can start assembling.

Trailer queen? Original trans with how many miles on it already? Put it back together and run it. If you were going to put 650 HP in front of it and abuse it then my opinion would be different.

41K on the car and matching numbers trans. Motor will be bone stock OE............

Put it back together and don't give it a second thought. I build 75-100 A833's per year. Not my first rodeo.

before I'd run it I'd carefully grind the sharp edges and smooth up the OD of the broken teeth.

I agree. Done it before on ring gear teeth with no failure.
