I need to get some emblems refinished. They are for a 68 Dart and are the the following:
- 'D''O''D''G''E' across hood - 'G''T' both fenders - V-8 both fenders - 'G''T' deck lid - 'D''A''R''T' both rear quarter panels
Is there anyone out there that restores these pot metal emblems? Anyone have any good/bad experiences?
Thanks all.

They are actually not too hard to do yourself depending on how bad they are. You can't really polish too much or you'll start going through the plating layers. Once they are polished spray the whole thing flat black a few times let the paint dry well. Then there are two ways to take the black off the face. Either hit it with super fine sandpaper, I can't remember off hand what grit I used. Or you can softly rub them over a paper towel soaked in laquer thinner.
That's for the emblems with the black background and are the only types I've done.
I agree, use laquer thinner works well. You can put a little on a rag and control where it goes easily. Just rub lightly and take your time.

What about buying new re-pops? What company is selling the emblems? Who to recommend and who to avoid? Thanks!

I refinished my Road Runner emblems since the repops had a different size pin for mounting and I didnt want to deal with that. I also notice the repops and a tiny bit smaller overall. almost un-noticable, but with the car Im working on(not a flip)I want as many original or NOS parts as I can get.

Thanks for the tips.
I am getting all of them rechromed and then I will go at the 3 GTs and 2 V-8s with the black paint. The other lettering is just plain chrome.
