ok in my other post about valves I should have put up the whole engine so here goes

I have a 67 440 stock as a rock, the cast flat tops at .080 down the hole, The heads are 915s with 2.14in and stock 1.6ex valves. the heads have been gasket matched at some stage & maybe a bowl clean up.

I tryed to fit roller rockers on this engine once and I have a set of isky ball and cup push rods at stock length 9.125 and they are like .040 too long. I used spark plug washers to shim the shafts and they fitted good. but went back to std rockers.

so either the deck or the heads or both have been milled at some stage of its life. when I pulled a head it has .040 felpro blue gaskets.

the engine is a good strong runner and has a stock cam

heres my plan...

on the bench I have a pair of .020 steel shim head gaskets, new stainless 2.14s and 1.77 valves, a good but used.509 cam and brand new crane lifters, brand new roller timing set, comp 911 springs with moly retainers & locks. a 986g key

on the car (70 valiant) I have hooker 1-7/8 fender exits, a holley SD and 950hp (830 in reality) MSD 7al-3 ign milodon 7 qt sump & wind tray, manual shift 727 with 3800 J verter, 4.11s with a 28" tyre.

can you see any flaws in my budget build and how do you think it will run?

That's one thing I gleaned from the aforementioned porting article was that the 915's have a dead air space (depression) on the short side ex port that severely needs a larger valve to elim most of it. I would get the flat piece of plastic plate & CC the heads & plug it in to a CR calculator & see what SCR you have & the 509 cam MAY not be the best choice. The calculator will also tell you how much gain you will get from the thinner head gaskets & they DO require dead flat deck/head surfaces.

its always been my intention to replace the valves with over size ones. that article confirms that. what a great read. as for the .509 its what I got so its what I gotta use.

the eagle website comp caluclator says my cast pistons with 1.990 CH should be 0.092 down the hole yet these are definitly .080 and its strange that the 9.125 push rods are too long, Im thinkin somthings been cut

HELLO I THINK THAT THE 509 MP CAM IS THE BEST STREET CAM THERE IS TODAY. I HAVE PUT THAT 509 CAM IN MAX WEDGE ENGINES WITH TWO FOURS,IN 440 ENGINES WITH SIXPACK ,ALSO 440 WITH A FOUR BLD.OVER 10 MOTORS IN THE PAST AND THEY ALL WORK GEART!! LOTS OF TOP END!!ALSO IN SMALLER ENGINES LIKE THE 383 I PUT THE MP 484 ALSO A GOOD CAM.

The MP 509 cam is legendary. But there's also new/better technology out there. I'd use it since you have the gearing and converter to support it.

It sounds like the heads have been milled. As for the block, Chrysler wasn't the most consistent when it came to productions tolerances.

I had very good luck when I did the MP porting templates on a set of prod. cast iron heads (516). Gained at least 3 mph thru the traps and could feel more grunt compressing the rt rr leafspring when I matted it in 1st gear.

Just put it together as thoroughly as you can. Lots of old used unrebuilt Mopars got a 509 cam back in the day and they're what gave the big block wedge its street/strip credibility.

You may want to check the valve-to-piston clearance and degree it in a little advanced (4 degrees).

If it has a factory cam and lifters the push rods might work with a new cam.67 was the last year for the tapered push rods.Rocky

If that engine was freshened and still has its original 67 cam and lifter the new pushrods are not going to fit in the lifters.

Also shimming up the rockers shaft is THE WRONG way to correct for pushrods that are TOO LONG. if you need shorter pushrods then buy shorter pushrods .
