I need a new fuel sending unit for a 69 b-body. I currently have the original, but can't get it to work on the gauge. It reads between 3/4 and full, when the tank is full. Tried adjusting it with no luck. Spectra makes replacements also Jacks Mopar and Year One carry them. Not sure who makes those. Anyone had experience with these units how do they work? How accurate are they? The spectra uses a plastic float and Jacks and Year One are brass. Any input would be great.

I just got one off e bay, it's stainless steel with a brass float and reads correct and best of all $59.95 with FREE shipping!! He offers 5/16 and 3/8. His ebay user name is totalgearhead and still has them listed.
I had a Mopar replacement in the car with a plastic float, well it sank in less than 2 yrs. I bought the one off ebay because I knew the problem was in the tank and didn't want to get stuck needing a sending unit took it out to find a bad float.

I would go with VANS AUTO SALVAGE on ebay ( I got mine from them on less than $50 including shipping, about one year ago )... they are actually on $50-70 rate for SAME UNITS than some others offer in $100-120 rate( at least those what I saw at Carlisle ). plus:

-they are BRASS floaters.

-rheostat to stud link is a METALLICK STRIP like the original, not a wire like those called "mopar" units

Only cons I found is the outlet is straight and original is angled... that makes a tight fitment with hose because there is not enough room around, and also an allmost exact lenght with ground strip

Guys, Should I go with the 3/8 or 5/16 sending unit? The 383 is bone stock puts out 335hp. I may try upgrading the engine to produce 400hp will the 5/16 do the job or will I have to go to complete 3/8 system. I know the 440 and 426 cars had 3/8 lines. Will the 3/8 work with my tank?

I think the 5/16 will be fine unless you want to change all the lines.

I put a new sending unit in my 66 Satellite and it would only register 3/4 full when the tank was full, so I took the gauge out of the dash and was able to adjust it with a small screwdriver through a hole in the back and now it seems pretty accurate.

I replaced the fuel tank, sender, and line kit
with parts from Quanta from "gastanks.com"
The senders and lines are available in 5/16"
3/8" or 1/2" in steel or stainless. I went with
the 3/8" sender & line kit on my Dart and everything fit perfect. toolmanmike

I bought this one off of Ebay back in August and it has been a nightmare. Should have known it was trouble from the sellers name.

link to cheap ebay sender

The gasket leaked when we reassembled it. Since then, we have tried several different gasket combos and even o-rings. We even ran two gaskets, one on each side of the sender) and a new lock ring. No luck. It will stop for a while, but any time there is a change in temp, it starts dripping gas in my garage. Put the original sender back in and no leak! The metal is thinner than the original.

I am ready to scrap it and buy the one from Quantum and see if it's any better.
