We were out today...out of town of course, and my 2008 ram's ETC light started flashing and acting up (revs increasing / high idle). Shut it of and restarted it and it seems fine.

So, any thoguths on the issue?

A family member,(a chrysler mechaninc)told us not to drive it and get it checked first.

I would recommend checking out a RAM Forum and/or RAM complaint forum.
Here's some examples:

http://www.dodgeproblems.com/

2008 specifically -
http://www.edmunds.com/dodge/ram-pickup-1500/2008/consumer-reviews.html
http://www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/Ram_1500/2008/

That will keep you busy for a while...

Yea thats the Electronic Throttle Control. First thing to do is have it scanned to see if it set a code and go from there. It controlls the idle speed and the throttle to wide open. When you are pressing the gas you are just moving a sensor that tells the PCM how much gas you want to give it and then the electronic throttle control works it electric motor to put the throttle in the posistion you want. Most will go to a limp in when it has a problem which usually it just runs it at a high idle around 1500 rpm from what I remember. But it may have set a code to help diagnose it. Ron

I think if you turn the key to run, off, run, off, run within 5 seconds it will give you a code, if it generates a code for that problem.
