Okay guys. I found out today some critter got into my GTS and chewed my original 40 year old headliner. In everyones opinion who makes the best repro headliner. It a red interior car. So color and texture has to be real close. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Keep a sample from a spot from your original that has never seen sunlight. Ask for samples from the vendors. Insist that the color of their product matches the sample you were given once you decide. I can't give you a good source. Let's just say I was disappointed.......Good luck and let us know where you get it !!!!

A while back, Legendary told me they were no longer doing headliners other than black and white. I don't know if that's still the case. I ended up getting a perfect blue headliner from a company in California called Acme Headliners. They actually sent me a couple of samples that were not a match and agreed to search for me. A couple of months later, out of the blue, they called and asked if I still needed it. It was the NOS material and they made one up for me that fit perfectly and it was very reasonably priced.

A Legendary rep refered me to ACME when I needed a silver headliner for my 68 Road Runner. They had NOS material and it was a great fitting piece. I had a local auto upholstery shop guy come out and install it and he even knew about ACME and said that they had a good product. He said that there is a lot of junk headliners in the after market, esp for GM and Ford restorations. Mine ran about $250 and another $125 for installation. I'm very happy with the quality of the product and the installation as well, there was no way I was going to learn on that headliner.

Here is another pic, the flash makes the silver look more white. For comparison, use the white bed sheet over the windshield area.

Yes, the front and rear glass had not been installed at the time of the headliner work but the side glass was in. Since I started with a painted shell, it made more sense to me to do the headliner early in the interior process so I would not need to remove other items like the pillar moldings, upper panels, package tray, etc. again and have to reinstall. Basically just starting at the top and working my way down. I even held off on installing the dash until the headliner was in, just trying to give the installation guy more room to move around in the car and also less chance of accidental damage.

Thats the way I did mine. Good choice on getting a pro for installing the nos fabric..... Mine looks "good" and it was my first time. I was quoted 75 bucks for a guy to come out and do mine. After 3 nights work and a "good" result. I wish I would have ponied up for the 75,

Getting a pro to do the headliner was definitely one of the better decisions I made about my resto. He came by after work with his own spray gun loaded with glue. I started to watch but just decided to leave him be and went to cut the grass... He took less that two hours with the job that I'm sure would have taken me all day. When he was done I think there was maybe a small wrinkle or two that went away after a day or so. That is when the paranoia started...I had to start poking holes in the headliner for the visors, mirror, seat belts, etc. Bob Villa would have been proud of me, I measured about a dozen times before I cut... It turn out "most excellent"
