Would you rebuild an AFB or replace it with something new? The AFB is old but was never used until about a year ago. Currently the AFB has a BAD stall on hard acceleration and is BAD cold natured. I was considering EFI but I am not interested in spending the money right now. If the AFB can be helped I'm all for it but if not I'll pick up a new Edelbrock in Indy next month.

As long as the throttle shafts are not loose in their bores, I'd rebuild. Even if you buy a new one it will probably need to be tuned to your engine. After rebuilding and replacing the accelerator pump, if it still bogs you can replace the springs under the vacuume operated power pistons. Go to stiffer springs which cause the pistons to raise the metering rods out of the main jets sooner. Or change the metering rods to smaller ones, or swap out the jets to bigger ones. I bought a kit years ago which came with multiple size jets, metering rods, and springs. With the right combination of these you can get the carb tuned exactly to your engine.

You can buy individual parts without buying a kit at www.walkerproducts.com click on the shop online at the top, then click Carter, then 4bbl.
A great detailed PDF all about AFB carbs is on www.edelbrock.com, go to carbs, then go down to Carburators owners manual.

Check the accelerator pump & want immediate tip in & good stream duration & I'm sure there's a source for purchasing pump plungers seperately just make sure you get the correct one for your app. Check/adjust the choke setting/pulloff & lightly closed at 70 deg F is a good baseline to start with. then you'll be in a better frame of mind to decide if it needs rebuilding. It's on the car & running so I wouldn't think it is in too bad of shape right now except for those 2 issues. EDIT might open it up & check float level & that'd be a good opportunity to check for debris inside there
